For the last month, I’ve been talking about my ideas for working with what you have. But, I just know that you all have done some great things when presented with decorating “challenges” around your own houses. So, I’d like to invite you to share your solutions next week at my first “Working With What You Have” link-up that will start next Wednesday.
Your post could be about a recent project or something you’ve done years ago that’s been working for you for a while now. It’s not specific to a certain room or idea. Just show us how you’ve “worked with what you had”, whether it be a big brown couch, a tiny foyer or your Great-Aunt Louise’s inherited bedroom furniture. Tell us how you worked around the dilemma so that we can all be more inspired to work with what we have in our own homes.
I have more “working with” posts planned, thanks to suggestions from many of you. And, in case you’ve missed any of the posts I’ve done in this series so far. . .
Look forward to seeing what ideas you share with us next week!

Thanks for this series and for hosting the link-up. I'd love to join up! Not only have I had to work with a big brown couch but a tiny foyer and many other things(alas no great-aunt Louise). :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. Looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteHow much fun. I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteWorking with- ugly ceiling fans! Help! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat Series! Simply Great!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! I inherited most of my furniture and its taken a long time to get (some of) my rooms to look more me. I'm trying to figure out how to work with my (big/dark/heavy/inlaid wood) bedroom furniture right now. Hope someone has some inspiration!
ReplyDeleteFun! Looking forward to it!

I love all your ideas Emily! Thanks for inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThis is by FAR my favorite series!!!!! Could you do something on "working with dark furniture"? My Master Bedroom furniture is all cherry--my hubby is anti-painting the furniture, so we need a "common ground". Light accessories? Light paint?
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Love this series. And thanks so much for including my kitchen photo in your post! :) I can now report that after scrubbing and cleaning those painted tiles, it all still looks new! So happy I did it! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Emily,
ReplyDeleteI sent you an email to your email address with my "What We Have To Work With"....I am really looking forward to see all the projects!

ReplyDeleteGreat ideas, I have been trying to work with things I have around my house and just rearranging lamps, table and other furniture. Plus I have a long family room that I am going to try and create a seperate reading area or something like that to break up the room. Thanks for all the ideas.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! I can't wait for more posts and the link up.
ReplyDeleteI've really been enjoying your "Working With What You Have" series, Emily. It's almost like you've given me permission to be happy with what I have instead of this non-stop desire to replace everything. Seems silly, but it's true! Looking forward to your link party too. My biggest problem is working around all of the red (big red couch), green and gold (big gold club chairs)that I decorated my home with back in the 90's. I have a two story great room that I'm just not ready to fork out the bucks for someone to paint and don't have the bucks to buy all new furniture!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited about this link up. I have to look around and decide what I want to write about! Thanks for hosting and giving lots of notice! I can't wait to read about everyone's projects!

I love this series! I've been able to pull a few ideas from each one to incorporate into my own home.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't really fit in with the Working With What You Have theme, but I would love to hear some advice you have on decorating with tall plant shelves. Almost every room in our home has them - kitchen, dining, family room, master bedroom, master bathroom... And I'm running out of ideas on how to best accessorize them. I don't want them to all look the same, and that's what is happening right now! One of them is completely bare because I'm dumbfounded! Any tips??
