Congrats—And Oh Rats!

Yes, it rhymes. I’m trying to find the humor in my day.  More on that in a minute.

But, first, the “congrats” part….. Carmel Phillips is the winner of the $150 Stella & Dot giveaway.  If you still want to shop the trunk show, you can do so here through March 8th.  Thanks to everyone who made purchases already.

And, onto the “oh rats!” part. . . . The stomach bug seems to be making its way around the Clark house, and it’s not pretty.  I’ll spare you the details, but cleaning up after the sick  isn’t my strong suit as a mother. . . .I’m all about throwing it out and buying new.  What about you?  Are you a thrower-outer or a cleaner-upper?

Well, lucky for you, I have  no pictures to go along with that part of my post, but I'll be back soon.  Right now, I’m way too sleep deprived to give you advice on how to do anything.

Back to my nursemaid duties. . .

  1. Hang in there. No fun, especially when it goes through the entire household.

    1. We are totally opposite around here. In my opinion, nothing seems worth salvaging at 2:00 in the morning :)

  3. We throw it out unless it is a special item (blanket/teddy bear). Hope everyone is better ASAP.

  9. I'm with you throw it out, that is unless it's the actual wall to wall carpeting I dealt with a few weeks ago and I kid you not I went out into the garage and pulled out my paint respirator and put it on before heading upstairs to clean! It was quite the sight but if I would've smelled it there would of been a whole new mess to clean up! Hope everyone is feeling better soon!!!

  10. Oh Emily! I can totally sympathize. We had the stomach bug last month when my husband was out of town for work and it was not pretty. It gave me new appreciation for single moms. I washed 4 curtain panels and more sheets than I can count but threw out one 8x10 rug, several bath mats and numerous towels. One word: projectile.

Hope you all make through soon!

  11. I feel your pain! We had one episode so bad (also at 2 am - hmmm) that we actually just put towels over the stairs until we could replace the runner (after an hour spent cleaning up the chunky stuff and all the splatters of course). Somehow my son was at the top of the stairs facing that direction and it ended up hitting every. single. step. And every ballister. And splattered the wall all the way down. I actually did take pictures because it was so unbelievable! Some things you just have to throw away.

  13. Without being too graphic it matters on what it is. I hope everyone feels better because I know how difficult it can be when sickness goes through the entire household.

    Take care Emily.

  15. I am definitely a thrower outer. Just yesterday I took each of the corners of my son's bedsheets. Tied them in a knot and threw the entire set in the garbage. Just got back from Walmart where I got a set of sheets the exact same color on clearance for $7.00. Totally worth it!

  16. I am like you... my first instinct is to just throw it out! When we had a water leak in our basement, I just threw out all of the gross towels instead of trying to wash them. Costly, but I would probably do it again! :)

  17. oh girl I feel for you! We have been passing it back and fourth multiple times here for the past 5 weeks- finally had to take one kiddo to the dr b/c they want to run some test for possible Salmonella poisoning. And yes Im a tosser- threw out a bed quilt, sheets and TONS of underwear. ewwww. and Im so sick of eating the BRAT diet I could scream!

  18. I am a throw up alongside of them kind of a mama. My poor baileyhusband gets called in for "those messes" that my weak stomach can't handle:( We just (hopefully) finished having the stomach flu pass thru all 6 of us....which is my reason for hardly any posts in the month of Feb. Good luck Emily!! ~Kim

  20. I am a cleaner-upper to the extent that paper towels are in my home only to please my husband--even the rags get washed and reused.

It helps that my floors are almost entirely tiled, all of our family room furniture is slip-covered, and my husband--who knows exactly where the toilet is and how fast he needs to walk to get there--is the only one who has "gotten sick" in recent memory. My son, who is nearly four, is more of a boogers and fever kind of kid. Lucky me!

  21. I'm sorry. That's just hard. Fresh air and purell.

  22. Oh I so sorry! That is the worst. I definitely throw it out, my husband agrees. I can't handle that! Tried cloth diapers, not for me!

  23. Oh no!!! I am so sorry! I have so many friends are in the same boat. And I don't have kids---but I have no doubt I will want to throw away and buy new!

  24. So sorry! And im a thrower; I became very cavalier about it during potty training. :). Take care.

  25. Thanks, everybody. Never expected so many responses about vomit but I enjoyed reading your comments :)

  26. Sorry you're all sick! I clean up some things, but some messes I just throw out. When my first was my only I think I was a lot more likely to clean up, but now I just toss it.

  27. Still can't believe I won - I never win anything! Hope everyone gets to feeling better real soon. I'm not the best nurse either - i have a weak stomach. ;) throw away is always my motto no matter what time it is.

  28. Bless your hearts. I can clean up blood but the other stuff just grosses me out. Hope everyone feels better now.
