I Was at Target Buying Diapers…

And, somehow, I got lost and wound up in the home decor section.  It happens.

Anyway, have you seen their new “modern cottage home” collection for Spring?  I made a little impulse purchase and came home with two of these pillows for the girls’ room but the color wasn’t quite right.  (I think I’m going to use those gray chevron ones I had made for big floor pillows.)  I want to add another color and was thinking of something in the turquoise family but these were a little too “minty” once I got them home, so they’re going back.

(The scale of this photo is obviously off. They were also a little smaller than I wanted.)

The rest of the collection is made up of shades of coral and aqua with cream, black and a little gray mixed in for good measure.  I need to go back when I have more time to think and look.

Grosgrain Applique Toss Pillow - Coral/White (18x18")

Cream with Green Cross Lampshade

Green Table Lamp Base 18.5" (includes CFL bulb)

Large Black/White Chevron Storage Basket

Coral Accent Table

White Lattice Cottage Mirror

Large Aqua Glass Vase

Small Coral Vase

Yarn Embroidered Toss Pillow - Black (18x18")

Coral Lattice Deorative Tray

Accent Furniture Nailhead Storage Ottoman Trellis

Orange Ginger Jar Table Lamp Base (includes CFL bulb)

Horse Figural

I was more impressed with this than the recent Neiman Marcus collection (that’s now 70% off—which is about where it should’ve started, in my opinion. . .)

What do you think?

  1. You got distracted at target? I've never heard of that happening! Lol. I'm in LOVE with that gray ottoman. The shape is so cool!

  2. Wow, I think I have commented 3 times this week - a record for me!

I posted photos on Instagram when I was at Target this week - I like it! Definitely better than other stuff they have done recently. However, is it me or do they always seem about a year off of color trends? Love coral but it has been done alot - or I guess they are counting on the mass market to finally be 'getting' it? I will be going back and looking more too.

Oh, and the Neiman Marcus stuff......I just did not get it? Hard to even want anything even at 70% off - what a bust!

  3. I can't WAIT until Target opens here in Canada in the next few months. I have been on withdrawal since moving away from the US!

  4. I fell in love with this collection too! The coral x-benches were amazing too. I'll definitely be going back for a better look!

  5. That's why I buy almost everything off of Amazon, just so I don't get "lost" and spend hundreds more:)

I love the coral colors, might have to get that adorable side table for my daughter's room. This is the downside of limiting myself to a Target trip once a month...

  6. I saw this at my Target too and I'm in love! I think the price point is very reasonable, and a lot of the items are just my style. I hope I can snatch up a few pieces before everyone else does.

  7. I was unimpressed with the Neiman Marcus collection too - I made the mistake of going to Target to wander two Saturday's before Christmas and found myself in the little girls clothing section... there was this gorgeous little white party dress... I looked at the price tag and just about fell over. $99.99! Just ridiculous, IMO!

But this new collection, wow! I might need to have that grey and white lampshade. And that ottoman!

  8. I saw some of this stuff yesterday when I was on a serious (and unintended) buying spree for my new house. I liked a lot of it...scale is a little small on some things but they had the right idea. My biggest problem is that they don't put down inserts in their pillows--they used to for a time and it was great. Those squishy foam inserts make the pillows feel so cheap...the very first Dwell and Thomas O'Brien pillows were for sure down because I am still hoarding some!

    1. I agree. That's exactly why the chevron pillows are going back tomorrow :(

  9. Thanks for sharing! I think coral will be the accent color in my new bedroom, so some of these pieces are calling my name. Think I'll twist my kids' arms to run up there...which really isn't that hard. Everybody loves Target!

  10. Hey! I ducked into Post and Gray today (on the corner of Rampart and S. Tryon) and they are having a sale too! 20% off just about everything, and 40% off their upholstered stuff. A little pricey, but a good spot for a statement piece. And their rugs were pretty reasonable.
I love Target so much....need to break down and get new pillows for the living room this year.

  11. I noticed everything when they were putting it out last weekend. Great stuff! I didn't see that adorable gray and white ottoman. There are many places I could fit that in my house. I might have to swing by tomorrow!

  13. Who ever comes out of Target with just what they intended to buy? I'd like to meet them... :) Most of the new collections are lovely, but I agree about the Neiman Marcus collection.

  16. I know where I'll be going this weekend! I love some of these pieces and even if they don't work for just what we need, they definitely offer up plenty of inspiration!

  17. Love all those! I think my favorite is the coral pillow. I totally agree about the Neiman Marcus collection- I didn't even bother looking through the rest when I saw the prices.

  18. Totally on board with you and the NM line. Sticker shock. Obviously Target is paying for the brand name, and I'm not buying!

  19. I got distracted by it too! I had my list of things to get and on my way over to get Gogurt I saw the black Greek key pillow. I totally forgot about the Gogurt but the pillow came home! It will be going in for surgery soon to removed the sad pillow insert! ;)

  22. I was so content hibernating this month in my NO SPEND plan for January and you had to post this! I will cave. My home is turquoise and I have wanted to add coral elements. SUCH great accessories. I'm there this morning at my local Target in Cypress, Texas! LOVE your blog, Emily! I read it every.day. Love your style and you've inspired me to start my own blog - 2013 resolution!

  23. I bought a couple little pillows - hoping they work in the guest room. I just with they came with better inserts. Did you see all the new kitchen stuff? I bought a wood tray and a cute little creamer and sugar dish. I think I spend more money than I plan to at Target every time I go in there!

  24. Hi Emily! I've been a silent blog reader for a while and thought I'd just comment to say that I love your blog. Your home office is beautiful and the favorite I've come across as I've been gathering ideas for our dining room turned home office. Thanks for such great content! I always look forward to your posts:)

OH...and I couldn't agree more about the Neiman Marcus collection at Target!

  25. I have tried avoiding that section like the plague when I saw all the wonderful items they had out. I'm hoping that my little ol' town in the midwest doesn't find this stuff as cool as I do and then I can scoop it up on clearance.

  26. i love this collection and am so disappointed they didn't have it in my Target but I'm hoping they get it soon :-) Loving coral right now

  27. Hmmmm, I end up in the decor section at Target when I go shopping for diapers too. I am almost out of baby wipes and now I am excited to check out this new collection too. :-)

  28. Sadly we don't have a target near me so i can never get lost there while buying diapers. But I want to now after seeing this! I love those lamps.

  29. Your post made me laugh out loud! They're never going to shift those Neiman Marcus bow tie cookie cutters or bejeweled glasses!! I did pick up the Rag & Bone shot glasses for $6 and I LOVE them, so not all bad!

  30. Did you see the large trays (Christmas section at end of home decor aisle) that were marked down from $24.99 to $7.48? I did a blog post about them today and oh, I absolutely LOVE the Spring collection. Already snagged a candle. Can't decide what I want next! www.sandimcclain.blogspot.com

  31. That lamp and the orange pillow are perfect for my new condo in Philippines decor for my living room. :)

  32. I love Target. I noticed they have a Nate Berkus line now too (maybe it's been there awhile, but I live under a rock). I bought a few of the NM ornaments at 70% off. Never would have paid full price. But think they make nice hostess gifts for next year. Happy shopping!

  33. I factor in a detour to the home section whenever I go to Target. I try to limit my trips to every other week, haha. Loved the colors in this collection, but didn't see too many things that I absolutely had to have. I'm really digging that fretwork pillow though.

Emily, I rarely comment but I just want to wish you good luck this year with all of your little ones. My mom had two sets of twins and she never misses a chance to talk about how difficult that was! She only had four, but you have five! Your little BIG family is adorable and I love your blog--you have a great balance of decor and family posts. Looking forward to seeing what's in store for you in 2013.

  34. I couldn't agree more about the Neiman Marcus Collection. Some of the dresses were pretty, though way overpriced. The holiday/home decor items were just awful. After seeing the big to-do the morning shows made about the collection, I expected a lot more out of it. I'm in our Target at least once a week (though usually more since it's right around the corner) and I know the collection didn't sell well at all. I really like the Nate Berkus and new Spring collections though.

  35. I love the way your post started. We can all relate with that distraction. I spied some pieces today too. Have a great week!
