I love getting Christmas cards in the mail. (And, I’m doing my best to get ours addressed!) So, in an attempt to enjoy them more throughout the season, I hung garland around one of our doorways where I could attach and display the cards.
I just started with a piece of fake garland, hung by two small nails on the top of our doorframe. Once it was up, I decided it looked a little more fake than I wanted it to, so I brought in some branches from outside and wired them to the garland.
I’m just using paper clips to attach the cards:
I had some leftover greenery that I had already cut, so I put them in a bowl and mixed in those faux succulents (from Hobby Lobby) that I love:
I love the way our card display looks when you come in the front door. Now, I’m just waiting for more cards :)
Abby reminded me of how much I’ve always liked this idea when she included it in her Christmas Decorating 101 series. Pop over to her blog for more great ideas:
Do you display your Christmas cards?

Thank you Emily! You're the best. I love that you mixed fresh branches in with your garland. It looks lovely! And your succulents in a bowl? You know how I feel about that. ;-). I think I bought most of Hobby Lobby's selection this year.
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten too many cards yet (which is good because I haven't put mine in the mail yet) but I have been thinking about a better way to display them this year. I love that you used paper clips! I also love that you can buy fake succulents at Hobby Lobby. So much to love here... :)
ReplyDeleteYes, we stick them to the wall as they come in. We shape them in the form of a Christmas tree. Something my Mother did and now I'm doing.
ReplyDeleteI used to make it a focal point, but I find I don't get that many anymore! I used to send 50+ but I have reduced that to a few dozen..Your garland looks fab.

ReplyDeleteCute! I was just thinking about hanging a ribbon (and taping to that) but will definitely do this instead!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily!

This looks so great! I'm kind of obsessed with those faux succulents too - they look so real! And they never die!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your decorations! Although, your garland is genius! So very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMine are in a gold basket in the living room, next to our most comfortable chair so that anyone can cozy up and look through them. Love your display, but this is easy for me. :). I need easy!
ReplyDeleteI display our family photos from years past above a garland-strewn IKEA wire (where children's art is displayed the rest of the year) Check it out here: http://tinyurl.com/d7sup54
ReplyDeleteI love this! I have been trying to come up with a new idea for hanging them, so this is perfect! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, this post reminded me of how much I want a striped room. :)
what a great idea! I might have to copy you! We usually put ours in a sleigh card holder and take one out everyone to pray for the family at our dinner blessing.
ReplyDeletethat is really a simple but awesome idea! I just a folder slide clips and ribbon on my christmas card holder :)

Oh my gosh, CUTE idea! This is my favorite new idea for cards I have seen. I usually just put mine in a pretty bin but I have been thinking of doing more and this is very uncluttered and seasonal.
ReplyDeleteFun!
ReplyDeleteI keep ours in a vintage brass bowl on the counter, so we can look at them and read them whenever we want.
Great idea! I see them around doorways often, but never with the garland- how beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you added the fresh greens. I love getting cards too... still working on getting ours done. Come visit me sometime, www.besostyle.com ... blogging + holiday prep is an interesting combination. Happy decorating!
ReplyDeleteI just started to display mine this year. I used to stash them in a bowl and then they ended up put away with the decorations at the end of the season. I love to see them hanging on my red branches! You can see it here...

I always display the cards and especially like it when they are family pictures. I must admit I do more of a display with the picture cards than the store bought cards.
ReplyDeleteI need to buy a new washer and dryer and wondered what you ended up buying and how you like it at this point in time. Thanks Emily.
We bought the Whirlpool Cabrio (top loading) and I love it! I didn't know how bad our other ones were until we got these! And, I'm amazed at how much laundry I can do in one load.
DeleteMy mom used to do this with our Christmas cards. Brings back warm memories!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I wasn't crazy about how fake the garland looked on my mantel so I stuck a bunch of cedar branches in it, too. It looks so much better!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. I used to put them on the mantel but out new house has skinny mantel and I don't like the way they look there.
ReplyDeleteNice blog... thanks for sharing with us..
