A couple of weeks ago, I spent the day treasure hunting at the Metrolina Expo in Charlotte. It had been years since I had last been—and I’m not really sure why. (The collectibles and antiques show happens the first weekend of every month, if any of you are close enough to go.)
Here are some things I spotted, bought or wish I had…
Cute, colorful stools. We have an old one in our kitchen now that I use all of the time.
The vendor said these were vintage Japanese floating balls that were once used to hold down nets in the ocean. I love the colors. (And, those ski coat racks beside of them were pretty cool, too.)
Little spools—fun for filling big glass containers…
And, big spools. I bought a couple of these for my bookcases. (Everything looks better in big groups, doesn’t it?)
I have serious attraction to big glass bottles. But, how many does one actually need??
An old sign that I didn’t buy, but kind of wish I had…
My friend insisted we could make these for way cheaper so she didn’t let me buy them :)
I picked up a few of those black number plates. Maybe a little update to a plain IKEA dresser?
Those wire pendants look like a DIY project waiting to happen, if I only had the time. I like to take pictures and tell myself I’ll figure it out later :)
Love these metal letters and numbers. The snowman? Not so much.
The frame needs a little TLC, but I loved the colors in this painting. So, I bought it.
And, of course, the best part of treasure hunting is coming home and playing with all of your finds.
Do you have a favorite flea market find?

oh, I love letters...those big metal ones! I would have bought the whole alphabet! (probably not...but that is how my mind works when I am at those flea markets! :)~Kim
ReplyDeleteI love the letters too! And the glass balls - that pop of color looks great on your mantle!
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I was with you!!!!! I have a few of the large spools, but I would love a few of those floaters! The art was great too!
ReplyDeleteWhat great stuff! I have one of those big metal letters over my piano. Those Japanese glass balls and the spools are perfect. Such great shapes and colors!

How I would love to visit this market. Yes, it is interesting the things that "speak" to us. Thanks for sharing. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI wish I went to flea markets and I've always wanted to go to Metrolina. I am super jealous of your finds!
ReplyDeleteScore....Love the fall colors. They seem to have the same stuff as Scott's!
ReplyDeleteI just noticed that HL now has really good moss covered balls already made...they look just like those topiaries. All you'd need is a stick and a pot! I'd love to find some of those glass floats, I've never seen those in my area.
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to take my sisters and I to our local flea market every Sunday. I used to HATE it! Now, what I wouldn't give to go back and buy everything for my (20 year later) house!
ReplyDeleteThe glass float is gorgeous. I love it. It looks wonderful on the mantle.
ReplyDeleteFu-un!!! I love treasure hunting!! I have a 2nd year blog anniversary giveaway today...stop by and check it out! Thanks! XO, Desiree
ReplyDeleteI need to hunt down some fun flea markets around here. Love your big green ball! And those giant letters are calling my name. Oh, and I thought I could pop that snowman in my front yard this year. He will fit right in ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, some great finds. Love those bottles, letters and light fixtures!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! Funny...I have a couple of japanese fishing net floats that my Aunt found years ago on the beach in Alaska. I love them and use them all the time here and there!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! :)

ReplyDeleteCheers,

You are so great at finding things!!
ReplyDeleteLove all these things, but those little stools are adorable...I want one! I also picked up some glass floats at the Brimfield sale this past fall. They look as great at my cottage as they do on your mantel :) I am also lusting after some wood spools, why didn't I ever think to keep some of the old thread (with wood spools) that I had lying around :(
ReplyDeleteOh those little stools!! I want some!! Some really nice treasures!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your finds!
ReplyDeleteI love flea markets! Great finds... you have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun! That is my idea of a perfect day!
ReplyDeleteAhhh, I LOVE the Metrolina Expo!!! I grew up going there with my dad. He usually had to drag me out of bed, but once we were there I loved it. He used to "sneak" me in for the child price, well past the child age, LOL. Is the lady with the homemade baked goods still set up in one of the bigger indoor buildings? Everything she made was DELICIOUS. Great memories! I may have to plan my next trip to Charlotte to coincide with the Expo!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post.....

I really like the art and have been looking for really large letters. That market looks great. I have a lot of favorite finds. I can't ever just choose one.
ReplyDeleteawesome finds. That sign isn't really a sign but underside of an old card table top. My friend has one hanging in her cabin. It is very cool.
