It’s always fun to look back and see how your house changes over time. It’s been over a year of changes here and there, and the breakfast room is finished! I’m so glad I took pictures of the house the day we moved in so I can see how much it’s changed. This photo is from June of last year:
And, this is how it looks today:
We started by removing the window treatments (I love those windows and wanted to see the entire height of them). We used the table we had in our dining room at the last house. I almost sold it when we moved but am so glad I didn’t. This area can hold a large table, and we need every inch of it.
I traded out the caned back chairs for something a little more kid-friendly (no upholstery!) and found this set on Craigslist. We changed out the light fixture for the Overstock chandelier I blogged about here.

I actually think the color looks a little more intense in the photos than in person. But, it is a lot of yellow. I don’t think it would’ve worked if we hadn’t painted the walls white first. (My husband says he likes how the yellow frames the green outside. Can you believe he said that before I did?!)
I originally ordered this runner for the back hallway, but I like the pattern it adds to our kitchen. It also works with the framed burlap art (details here).

I love it. I especially love the color of the window treatments. I'm curious about your rods. Did you buy a special rod that angles between the windows or are those separate straight rods? I'm facing that in my breakfast area with a bay window and not sure what to do.

ReplyDeleteEmily! I have been reading your blog for the past 6 months or so and I love it! I always told my husband that you do a great job expressing the type of style I have. This morning you proved me right! I literally just hung the exact fabric in my dining room on Sunday!! I used Azzuro Teal. I found it for less than $5/yd at Joann Fabric because they only had a few yards left! They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference! The dining room now looks so fresh and happy, and adding height to the windows with the full panel curtains really brightens the room. Not to mention, I'm IN LOVE with the fabric of those curtains! Great job - and kid friendly too :)

ReplyDeleteI fell IN LOVE with these drapes. I have been looking for drapes for our bedroom since we moved to a new place last October. Either it wasn't the right shade of yellow, or the right pattern - these drapes just nailed it. I found your blog, and the images of your drapes on my daily hunt for drapes, and in one hour I had them custom ordered from a seamstress in Memphis (she is very reasonable).
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you for your sharing your good taste! If it wasn't for your blogs like yours I would not have a clue what to do with my home.
Melissa
So glad this post helped. I would love to see pictures of your room!
