Look What Came to Live At Our House

For those who were following our dryer debacle last week, we ended up going with the Whirlpool Cabrio.  After seeing my post about the broken dryer, my mom called the next morning and said that’s what she has and loves them.  A few of you told me the same thing.  And, we ended up getting the large capacity washer, as well.  Woohoo!  I’m amazed by this thing and how much laundry I can do at once.  I never knew. (Does this mean you’ve reached an adulthood milestone when you’re this excited about a new washer/dryer?)

And, in case any of you currently in the market. . . While he was at our house, I asked the delivery/installer guy from Lowe’s about his opinion on a front-loader versus a top-loader washer.  He said that based on his experience with the ones he has installed, he would always recommend a top-loader, and that he would buy a Cabrio if he ever bought a new set.  I know many of you are very fond of your front-loaders, but I just thought I would pass that along since I appreciated hearing about all of your experiences while we were shopping.

I like our new set so much that it makes me want to get straight to work on re-doing our laundry room.  But, for now, I’ll just close the door and keep pinning pretty pictures:

  1. I am ( for shame!) waiting for my washer/dryer to die so I can get a pretty new one like yours! That black and white laundry room is to die for!

  2. My set is 18 years old, and while I'm not in a hurry to spend the money, I WOULD love a new bright-and-shiny pair. I'll have to remember this brand!

  3. Hi Emily
I would love a pretty laundry room too! I saw the laundry room you posted in person in the Canadian House and Home show house. At the time I thought a laundry/mud room is a great place to experiment with dark navy or black paint, also don't you love the contrast of the white cabinets and the dark walls?
    Thanks for posting.

  4. I have a front loader and HATE it. Keep hoping it'll die so I can get something new very soon.

  5. Honey, those guys aren't just living at your house. They are earning their keep!

  6. We got a new large capacity top loader & dryer last year and they both play a little song when they are finished. I swear I did a little dance every time I heard it for months. It made me so happy! Seriously an adult now. (I still really like them but I don't dance anymore) :)

  7. Good for you! The last time we replaced our washer and dryer my hubby said, why do they have to be so expensive, isn't a washer a washer and a dryer a dryer, and i stood my ground. even thought our is ge harmony and nothing like duets or yours, he was amazed at the difference of ease with our new set. He is a believer! You go girl! You go do that laundry! LOL!
Amazing how the simple everyday things make sure a difference isn't it?

  8. You are officially "mature" when these things are exciting! I was the same way when our new set arrived. I loved doing laundry for a whole, like, day or two. :)

I would even turn the lights off in the laundry room because the new set had so many pretty colors and lit up the whole room like a crazy laundry disco. Enjoy!

  9. We have the Cabrio as well and love it! I'm glad we went with a top-loader.

  10. that looks like a fancy washer/ dryer. makes it so much nicer to do laundry when you have great machines to work with. i love my laundry room (mostly because of the great washer/dryer) even though it's not perfectly decorated - getting there though!

  11. When I moved I talked the people that were buying our house into buying our front loaders. I HATED those things! They always smelled ... yuk!

I have a cheapie top loader that I do like better than my front loader, but it has an agitator and I am constantly cutting my knuckles on it. Please die so I can get some fancy Cabrio's - I have been dreaming about them for a year. So sad.

  12. Hooray! So happy for you! I love the wall color in that inspiration photo too... so moody.

  13. We have a Cabrio and I love it (and its HUGE capacity!). I know friends who are going back to top loaders after having front loaders, and I think I'm sticking with my top loaders!

  14. I agree with the delivery guy. I got the Maytag front loader shortly after they came out and I am waiting for it to break down so I can go back to top loading. I am not so sure the little bit of water that it uses gets the clothes as clean. I will keep the Cabrio in mind. You definitely need a large capacity with your little ones. I spent half my life in the laundry room when the boys were little.
    Enjoy,

  15. I also prefer a top loader. I knew many who were very excited about the front loaders when they came out for home use, but many say water sits in it and there are mildew/mold issues.

  16. We also have cabrios and have been very happy with them since we got them 5 years ago. Good luck catching up on all the laundry!!

  17. I know what you're all talking about! It's an ongoing dispute between my hubby and myself - toploader vs frontloader. We've had both, and while I am so for replacing our 13 yo frontloader with another toploader, he's not budging on the issue! His concern is water usage, particularly since we are solely reliant upon our rainwater tanks for our water needs. My argument is for speed and efficiency, and lower electricity usage and costs which are on the up in Oz. I agree about the smells and am convinced they are prone to mold.

I can't comment on the dryers since I very seldom, if ever, use ours. I'm a strong advocate of using the sun and fresh, clean air to dry and aerate our clothing and bedding! Not only does it save a fortune in power bills, but there's nothing quite like sinking into freshly sun-warmed, clean-smelling bed linen at night! Simple, but smart - and you can't beat it! ;-) Hx

  18. We got new Maytags, just as the pretty ones started showing up. I thought I'd be practical and now, I too am hoping they give up the ghost, sooner than expected!

  19. Congratulations and for me since I'm so "into" laundry have fun and enjoy.

  20. We love our fabrics! Woo hop! Why did they put the dryer on the left? Are you left handed? Happy laundry!

  21. Congratulations Emily! This is an enviable decorating accessory for sure. I will be in the market soon, and your research is good to know. Im pinning laundry rooms too for a makeover this fall.

  25. I've decided my washer will never die. It's a 1963 Maytag that my parents bought brand new and I inherited in 1996. Not a single thing has ever gone wrong with it so I've given up hope of ever getting a shiny new one. Congrats. It's so pretty and shiny...sigh...laundry envy here.

  27. We would have gone with the high capacity top loaders too except that I *needed* 2 washers and 2 dryers so we have 2 sets of front loaders that we stacked. I must be a real adult since that makes me so happy to be able to do 2 loads at once (4 if I count the washers and dryers separately)!

  28. Great choice...we just purchased the same set in January and so far I love them! I loved the look of the new front loaders and all of the great color choices but almost everyone that had them had a complaint. I am also amazed at how much I can wash all at once!

  29. We recently got top loaders too. I heard so many nightmares about front loaders. I love our new set..... glad you like yours too.

  30. We're going to need them sooner than later, too. I like the idea of front loader, bc then you get that great space on top...but I hear front loaders are the best. So fun to have the large capacity!! don't act like you have a lot of laundry, there are only SEVEN people in your house ;)

  31. We just had the Cabrio dryer installed on Friday! We didn't get a matching set though - went with a Samsung top-loader during a pressure-filled trip to Sears with a 2yo in full-on tantrum mode. :)

Now I'm wondering why we didn't get the matching washer...I think it's because the Samsung model they had was a bigger capacity.

  32. I HATE our front loader and am super excited that next year, when we move, we're leaving it behind. The Cabrio is at the top of my list!!!

  33. I've had my Cabrio W & D for 3.5 years now, and LOVE it! I had the Samsung front loaders in our old house (sold them with the house) and HATED them.

Unless there is some earth-shattering overhaul of the front loaders, I'll never have one again.

  34. I got a Cabrio set when they first came out...2006ish. I aboslutely LOVE them! My mother and mother-in-law are always amazed at how dry the clothes are when they come out of the washer. Congrats and enJOY!

  35. Can I ask if you are still loving the Cabrio? You know, after a whole week of of ownership ;) I think we might try to catch a Labor Day sale this weekend and I'm eyeing the Cabrio. Thanks!

  36. Yes, Becky! We've actually had it for a few weeks now and I love it.

  37. I've started looking for a new washer and dryer. Can you tell me more specifically which model you have? I've looked at all the Cabrio's on Consumer Reports and they have very low ratings from the consumer reviews. I'm confused when I compare those comments to the ones on here...sounds like everyone should love them and have 5 stars!

  38. Is the dryer quiet? My mom always turns on the dryer when I'm going to bed. I can't sleep with that thing on. I love the feel though of warm soaks before bedtime. Putting them in the dryer and going to bed gives you a awesome night's sleep.
