Board & Batten, But Better

What did you all think of this year’s Southern Living Idea House?  I’m pretty in love with it.  It’s simple, but beautiful and feels really livable.  One of my favorite features is the planking on the walls in almost every room:

Over the weekend, I saw a simple solution for a similar look on The House of Smith’s blog, created using inexpensive MDF boards, spaced an inch or two apart and painted in a semi-gloss.  Instant architectural interest! (Say that ten times fast.)

And, back to the Southern Living idea house. . . Our babysitter texted me last weekend and told me she was there.  Of course, I told her to take lots of pictures for the blog since I can’t go myself.  I’ll post some of her photos this week.

Check back later today.  I’ll be sharing details about a new partnership and a great sale.

  5. I am going to attempt that type of planking and this may be a good route to go! I love the look of it-so beachy! I just posted about it today as I was talking about my boys room...

  7. I would love to have rustic wood lining the walls. I'm just afraid of the damage to the walls and re-sale value...

  9. I did this just this kind of treatment on the walls in our mudroom/garage entryway last year, and LOVE it! It looks great but also adds some durability over just plain drywall.

  11. I've got planking on the brain too! We just did some (laid vertically and whitewashed) in our basement:

I love planking. It adds texture in a simple way.

  12. How cute is it that your sitter goes to the SL Idea House! Mine just tells me I'm crazy to paint the kitchen cabinets or some such. :)

Love that planking too. I wonder how easy it would really be to install?
