Now that it’s summer, I’m realizing I did a pretty poor job of sorting/organizing the papers I wanted to keep from my kids’ past school year.
So, my goal before they go back to school is to sort through it, pick out the most colorful pieces and frame them for our back hallway:

A similar project to what I did in our last house. . .
But, this time, I plan on putting everything in white frames (just spraying the ones I already have) . . .
Call it indecisiveness (or creative genius at work), but I’m also considering a completely different color scheme for this area of our house.

And, for the rest of their work and art projects that don’t make the wall of fame, I bought several of these gray paper boxes from The Container Store that I plan to store on our office shelves.

I like your idea of adding artwork to frames for a creative wall! I was an art teacher before my children were born and I LOVE seeing special artwork displayed in homes! We are currently working on an art wall in my daughter's room. So bright and cheerful!

Love the kids art wall. Have you seen those frames where you can open them and change out the art regularly? ( Improvements catalog) cause you know the art just keeps on coming. I have saved one box per kid of their best reports, art, papers, report cards, etc. now that they're older, but it took me years to pare down to that. Seems like you're on top of it! Great job, Emily.

I love to frame kid art. Can't wait to see your finished product! Oh, and I love the yellow door :) xx Kristin
ReplyDeleteLove that idea. I started that a few years ago with my oldest daughters artwork, but now 2 more kids added to the mix and I've gotten behind (kind of like keeping up with the baby books-Im such a bad mom). And LOVE the new color scheme as well.
ReplyDeleteI love the all white frames...makes me want to spray paint all of mine. Don't tell my husband. ;)
ReplyDeleteLovin those two colors you have posted...looking forward to seeing how you use them. Every summer we go through the school papers and keep a few of their favorites. Now that they are in high school those few yearly papers fill a huge Rubbermaid bin on the top shelf of their closets!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea...White frames!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors you shared.
Patty
Love that idea! And, I am loving the two new colors you are thinking about. Now that mine are grown (baby leaves for college in 3 weeks) I plan to go through their boxes of art and such and get it organized once and for all.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of framed kid's art! Can't wait to see it. I also recently changed over all my frames to white and it really made everything look brighter :)
ReplyDeleteI like those boxes that you got from the container store. I need to get some for my son's art and school papers too. Sadly most of his stuff I throw away because there's just so dang much of it, but in every batch that he brings home there always seems to be at least one gem that I have to hold on to! I need to organize the stuff from last year a little better though.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your kiddos' artwork hung!
Love it! I keep big plastic tubs in the hall closet and toss everything in there and put the year on the side, when the year is over, i take to the attic. i figure they can decide what they want to keep later! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe white will rock! Great examples and color scheme! The fact that you are getting all of that done with 2 new babies is inspiring lady!
ReplyDeleteI'm with the "big plastic tub" idea. There's always a new batch of wonderful items coming into the house every year, regardless of the age. I do something that I'm most happy though, I don't just save the fun artwork. I like a spelling test they wrote in cursive, a math test they bombed, a note I found they wrote to a friend, letters to Santa & tooth fairy (yes, my kids loved writing this person). Over the years, they love seeing these more than the art ones! Go figure
ReplyDeleteYour children's framed art will make you smile forever! A friend took a child's drawing, in black ink, on a white background, and blew it up, matted and framed it and it looked like expensive art. Great idea!

Love that idea and white frames will make the art really stand out :)
ReplyDeleteGood timing. I am doing the same this week. I bought the same boxes, only in white, to keep their papers. I also use one as their "homework box" during the year.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog!

I love putting together a children's art gallery and I have one in my laundry room so it makes me smile every time I am in there...instead of frowning when I look at all the laundry to do! :) Nice images!Fun post...
ReplyDeleteI'm going through the same process right now!!! I'm making mine into a photo book... but I really like the boxes that you bought for saving the special ones. Even though I'll have the book, I was having trouble throwing away the originals!
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to frame some of the boys' art since they were in preschool but it is sitting in big baskets in our laundry room. Love the white frame idea--may have to borrow that one...
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am putting together some ideas for redoing the boys' room and have almost those exact colors (green and charcoal) chosen! They are such a great, fresh combo. Can't wait to see what you do!

Smart momma! I really need to do something with the stacks of papers from last year too!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Good friends of ours in Germany have art from at least three generations displayed that way -- their daughter's early childhood work, the husband's sketches, and his father's pastels from the 1940s. It is more beautiful than the finest print could ever be.
ReplyDeleteI love those storage containers and I can't wait to see your picture wall!! My daughter just turned 14 and I buy a 12 pocket expandable folder every year when school starts and label the folders by month and just file photos, report cards, art projects or cards or notes she's given me. She loves going through the file cabinet and looking at her old folders!
