But, I think I’m going to have to pass on Anthropologie’s chair offerings. . . $1800 for one of these? They call it art, but it seems more like a DIY gone bad to me. (My apologies if you’ve just ordered a set of these for your dining room.)
What do you think? Am I missing something?

Oh my. Those are ugly as sin!
ReplyDeleteThey are a cross between something from a mental institution and a kindergarten room with the plastic portion...horrid.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Looks like a potty chair to me! ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah...think you're forgetting how attractive my fanny will look (from behind!) squeezed against that hole. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteOh... Wow. This must be a joke! I agree with Hannah, looks like a potty chair.
ReplyDeleteOMG those are SO gross!! hahaha! I don't think you're missing anything at ALL! :)
ReplyDeleteIt almost looks like an adult high chair.
ReplyDeleteUgliest thing I've ever seen!
ReplyDelete-Erin @ DIY On the Cheap
Oh my! Those are terrible!
ReplyDeleteThose are terrible!
ReplyDeleteDid you see their set of rocks with handles for $3000? It was exactly what it sounds like...a set of about eight smooth rocks (the kind that kids paint to make pet rocks) with cabinet handles attached. $3000. I think that Anthro's buyer has gone mad, personally.
ReplyDeleteI'm not loving them from the front, but I'm really curious to see them from a side view.
ReplyDeleteThey probably wouldn't be any better, but I'm just curious. The picture angle sometimes isn't very flattering.
These also seem WAY modern for Anthro
That's just wrong on so many levels, I don't know where to begin.
ReplyDeleteNope, you're not missing anything at all. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteFirst thought: cammode
ReplyDeleteThey have to be out of their minds!!!
ReplyDeleteWords can not describe how awful they are, let alone bad taste!
Just visited your blog for the first time. I am enjoying it very much. Love the Summer Place posts with the One Room Challenge gals.
Patty
No...you are not missing anything! That's just a bad creation. Looks like something created while on a bored camping trip! :) Sorry Anthropology!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you're right, ugly as SIN! I think I'll pass too.
ReplyDeleteLike a cross between some weird S&M torture chair and a kids' potty seat! WEIRD!
ReplyDeletesueathome.wordpress.com
I pretty much agree with you on this one.. I think they're the ones missing something haha
ReplyDeleteThey all look like adult potty chairs to me and the second one reminds me of frankenstein!
ReplyDeleteErrr. Yeah. Um nothing nice to say about those. geesh. I'll pass.
ReplyDeleteHideous! Certainly the WRONG combination of old and new. You're not missing anything!
ReplyDeleteOh, hilarious! Art yes, functional chairs, no.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend Emily! Hope you are getting lots of help and some rest here and there! Janell
What? It is like a bad joke. You are right, a DIY gone wrong! Horrible!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, so ugly! Couldn't agree more...stretching things a bit too far to be "different" if you ask me...
ReplyDeleteoh dear! those are tragic. What were they thinking?
ReplyDeleteThey look like something Dr. Frankenstein created.
ReplyDeleteIt's a freaking star wars Ewok chair. Take the hood off and their kind of cute but put the hood on you can't take them seriously. Good bones why did they destroy it with a plastic blob. ARGH!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a toilet.......
ReplyDeleteoh, my. I thought, 'surely they can't be that bad...' then I saw the pictures...
ReplyDeleteHey, now we can just go down to our local pharmacy and buy a potty chair. We will all be in style. NOT
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a toilet seat on stilts. Not my idea of class.
ReplyDeleteOh my, those are awful looking! I love Anthro. But these not so much.
ReplyDeleteYIKES!
ReplyDeleteYikes!
ReplyDeleteYIKES!
ReplyDeletejust like someone else said ... these buyers are seriously crazy and not sure how they even got hired.
ReplyDeleteThey look like potty training chairs to me - wonder if the artist has a toddler? I like weird and wonky - but this is too far even for me. Can't you just see something like this outside of a trailer in some of the not so friendly parts of KY? ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is the ugliest chair I have ever seen. Seriously?? What are they thinking??
ReplyDeleteOh wow, those are just flat out awful! My 6 year old even said it was ugly!
ReplyDeleteEww.
ReplyDeleteHa! That is what I call a swing and a miss!!
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm a new follower ;)
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more, those chairs are awful!
Oh my god.
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud.
You are spot ON with DIY gone wrong or even..MAD.
That is a serious misstep. Yikes and NO!
Thanks for posting and making me giggle. I had no idea!
OY VEY!
ReplyDeleteyeah, it looks like they are trying to hard on this one.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you...as I roll my eyes!
ReplyDeleteUgh-o! but I wouldn't be surprised if someone buys them. People will buy anything if it comes from Anthro and they say it's 'art'. In other words, there's a sucker born every minute
ReplyDeleteEww. Dislike.
ReplyDeleteHott Mess!!!
ReplyDeleteHott Mess!!!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure someone didn't photoshop this as a joke?? Bet they're on clearance soon!
ReplyDeleteyuck, yuck and uncomfortable
ReplyDeleteHorrible. Almost as bad as RHs new de-constructed line!
ReplyDeleteStacy
Those are just as bad as Resto's furniture with all the upholstery ripped off. Silly.
ReplyDeleteI think they're missing a few marbles! Awful!
ReplyDeleteThe things that are called "art" these days very often is not! I had to do a double-take on these chairs. Yep, they're still awful.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely crazy, I wouldn't pick them up on the side of the road for free, who are they trying to kid.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Yes, it DOES look like DIY gone bad. Got to wonder who thought this was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI agree, ugly. But, they may be laughing all the way to the bank. C'mon, have you seen some of their stuff for tons of moola?
ReplyDeleteI agree...these are really bad.
ReplyDeleteBut then again, even though we're seeing distressed furniture all over blogland, the web, etc. I wonder why people buy used furniture, paint it, distress it and make it look even older than it is?!? I guess I'm missing something there!
I can understand a leeetle bit of distressing but IMHO, I think if you're going to "refurbish/redo" a piece, why not make it look like it's gotten a new lease on life. Anybody else out there in agreement or am I the only one who's not totally on the distressed bandwagon? ;-)
Maybe a desperate attempt to get attention...and look it's working! :)
ReplyDeleteThose are just wrong!!!
ReplyDeleteFriday the 13th joke?
ReplyDeleteOh the poor designer of these chairs gone bad. What were they thinking? I have to agree these are just bad.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the bucket carseat my sister sat in during the 80s!
ReplyDeletewow, you got the comments on this one! I think it's awful. Kinda looks like a toilet seat ...bad.
ReplyDeleteNancy
Powellbrowerhome.com
looks like someone too their Peg Perego baby chair seat and attached it to their GoodWill Chair. sad.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Emily, very weird!
ReplyDeleteYeah, not so much. I'm with you, Emily. Those are just... odd.
ReplyDelete*** Are you SERIOUS, Sweetie?
ReplyDeleteThey actually H*A*V*E these... and they're reeeeeally F*O*R S*A*L*E??? HONEST??... then SOMEBODY in the SO-CALLED "design dept" (?) is smokin' SOMETHING, and it AIN'T A TURKEY!!! Eeeeee-gads!!!!!!
Hugs,
Linda

Awful, awful, awful. I don't know why anyone would even take them for free!
ReplyDeleteBirthing chair???
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, you're funny! They do look a wee bit cobbled together, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for being creative, your own style but whoever did this should be brought before the "interior design" court and punished. Severe-like! This is what my grandmother use to say "they did a little too much reaching"
ReplyDeleteIs this a joke? Are they really selling these? Wow! I'm not sure what they were thinking. That's the price of a used car! Crazy!
ReplyDeleteweird!
ReplyDeleteAwful!!! And the prices?!??!
ReplyDeleteThose are ridiculous! Emperor's New Clothes Syndrome!
ReplyDeleteGross!
It reminds me of the classrooms from the 80's. The color, the style, and with some upgraded fancy wood legs?! Bleh! Not art....
ReplyDeleteEwe. Not a fan. Totally agree with you.
ReplyDeleteThose look like potties
ReplyDeleteI know you aren't supposed to say anything if you can't say something nice but really...those chairs...just awful...
ReplyDelete-Lane

Oh my, those are bad!! Is it some kind of a joke? Who would ever buy those? They must be a joke.
ReplyDeleteAndrea
To be quite honest and after I say, eee gads!! what were they thinking? When I first saw your photo, I thought it was chair with a child booster seat positioned in it!
ReplyDeleteEmily, YOU should design for them
You've got to be kidding me! It's not even a nice aesthetic. Truly looks like they slapped everything together!
ReplyDeleteUnappealing on an artistic or practical basis.
ReplyDeleteNo humour, no whimsy, no AH-HA at all.
."
Even my husband, a self avowed trash picker (curbside recycler?)
would not stop to pick one or all of these sitting at the curb.
Midwestern me "Are you kidding me?"
Texas me "Aw HELL no
It's like the Emperor's New Clothes.... someone has to step up and say when the big designers get it wrong!
ReplyDeleteI am going to 100% agree with you. I feel like this is all wrong on so many levels!
ReplyDeleteI think that they ruined some very nice wooden chairs in the process. And, with low rise jeans sp popular, I just keep thinking of all the plumber's crack that will be perfectly framed in the hole.
ReplyDeleteI am a lover of most things Anthro...but these chairs are absolutely hideous. ART....I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteGross. Just gross.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is eew.
