The Bachelorette Mansion

I’ve already confessed to my love of reality TV.  There’s just something about mind-numbing entertainment after a long day and when everybody else in my house is in bed that makes me happy.

For those of you who can relate, you may have heard that this season of The Bachelorette was filmed here in Charlotte.  Our local news station did a story on the house earlier this week, and I thought you might like to see some of the pictures.

(The infamous helicopter landing pad for that cocky guy—was his name Kalon?)

Is it just me or is the Bachelor “mansion” always dark and gloomy?  I don’t think I would’ve done well on this show.  In the middle of an in-depth conversation when some weirdo was declaring his love for me, I think I would mentally be picking out new, lighter paint colors for the place. . .

It all just seems a little gloomy-doomy to me. . .

And, an aerial shot:

Just in case you’re interested in buying (and redecorating) this McMansion, it’s for sale.  You can see the full house tour here.

And, while we’re on the subject—for those of you still reading this—who was your least and most favorite of Emily’s bachelor choices?  None of them stuck out to me, and the guy with the egg (and large cuffs)  gave me the serious creeps.

Aaaaaggghhhh!!!!!

  1. I couldn't agree more! That guy gives me the heebie jeebies! I am not too crazy about the mansion decor myself. Too dark!

  2. I'm with you - I love the Bachelor and Bachelorette! My husband thinks it's so silly, which I know it is, but sometimes it's just nice to get lost in something silly! It's been a busy week, so I'm still waiting to see Monday's episode, but that guy creeps me out just from the picture! And, so cool that it was filmed in Charlotte!

  4. Ok, wish I lived closer to you and we could hang out! I had hoped that Emily would have asked for a better decorated mansion after they showed a bit of her house in the season she 'won'. She seemed to have good taste! Also, the guy with egg? Creepers!!!!!

Reality is my totally guilty pleasure - I'm with you, something about a quite house and bad tv - doesn't get any better!

  5. I don't watch the bachelor and bachelorette....only catch scenes here and there when hubby is flipping channels. but i agree with all your commentary on the decor and the guy with the egg. seriously who brings an egg?

  6. I love the bachelor! my only complaint is that the shows are sooo long! but I think I like this house better then the one in LA.

  7. Blech - it's hard to believe this is a real home and not just the set of a show or movie. I guess if you are going to live there, you are stuck with the style - so you better love it.

The one thing I do love love love are those elephants at the pool.

  8. I'm not usually a bachelorette watcher- but I caught this last episode and totally agree! There were a couple that looked like they had a little potential... I guess we'll see :)

  9. Thanks so much for the house tour! I am a Bachelorette/Bachelor junkie! Loved seeing it. The guy in the grandma outfit creeped me out the most. WHAT was that? The egg-man was a close second though.

  10. Gurrrrrl, you KNOW I watch this show. A whole bunch of these guys gave me the creeps, but then I don't watch this first episode with 100% concentration. It's just too much "Hi! You're beautiful!" "Oh, THANK YOU SO MUCH." And I just can't take it. I prefer the later episodes, so I'll have to reserve a whole lot of judgment for next week.

  11. Oh, and their houses are WAY too dark. It's like they're making them live in Ozzy Osborne's house.

  12. haha i agree with you...the egg guy is crazy!

  13. I have never watched before, but saw the 2nd half of this. Apparently, I missed a guy who dressed up as a grandma? (For real?)

It all seemed a little overly emotional, although Emily is totally gorgeous.

Kalon was obnoxious, but then he's cursed with a name that sounds like a Superman villain.

And the house is WAY over-the-top. And not in a good way. Just like all the declarations of broken hearts.

  14. I was totally thinking the same thing about the decor. Seriously? I mean, really? For the money that they probably spend, surely they could come up with something better! Does anyone know if they built the place specially for the show? Maybe that's a dumb question.

I think I'm gonna watch this season because I kinda like Emily, but several years ago the staged drama just got to be too much for me. Then I found realitysteve and it hasn't been the same since. lol.

  15. Oh yes, I watch every season of the Bachelor/Bachelorette! Gotta appreciate having these guilty pleasures. So entertaining! This house is gorgeous but yes the decor leaves a lot to be desired. Can you just imagine how great you could make it with your style savvy skills?? I would love to see that! Okay, back to the show. Emily is gorgeous, has great fashion sense, and is a good mom, but if I heard "thank you SO MUCH" one more time, I was going to scream. I think Charlie seemed nice, but who knows?! Looking forward to chatting more about this later in the season. :)

  16. The house is beautiful but I agree too dark and gloomy! Total creepers on the show, eww. I hope Emily finds a good one in the bunch!

  17. I was surprised how they kept showing the front of Emily's house- I wouldn't want that on national tv!
The McMansion is just a few miles from my house and the noise from some of the helicopters while they were filming was annoying, but I'm totally watching too :)

  18. I've always wondered why the mansion is so dark, too! Don't they read design blogs and know what's up?! :) I think I liked the guy from Seattle with the son (however the letter from his son was cheesy!) and the other guy who was a pro football player and now works at a sports facility for little kids...he was cute, too. The helicopter guy is ridiculous and the egg man....just weird!!

  19. I watch it everytime too- such a guilty pleasure. In total agreement that the place is dark and gloomy...and much, much too ornate for my liking. The guy with the egg was nuts. I wasn't a fan of any of the silly intro gestures- I'm a fan of all of the guys that just simply introduced themselves like normal people would.

  20. I could just see you while a guy was talking with your eyes kind of wandering around redecorating!!!! Ha! I love reality t.v. It drives my husband crazy but I don't care!! It makes me happy. Have you ever watched The Real Housewives??? Oh my... Talk about brainless and it makes me appreciate that we aren't super wealthy because it seems the more money you have the less class you have!

I am for Doug who got the first impression rose, Ryan, Nate, and another one that was in the first car. Can't wait to see how this season goes down!

  21. Oh my goodness! Like you, I love reality TV and The Bachelor/Bachelorette is my favorite! I was glad that they picked Emily to be the Bachelorette this season. I really want things to work out for her. There was a couple of picks that I didn't like from the first episode, egg guy, cocky helicopter guy are probably my least favorite. The 2 that I liked most for her are the race car driver and the single dad seem to both be good picks for her. I was born and raised in GA so I am pulling for the one from Augusta but now live in TN so I'm pulling for the one from Nashville too! Ok, reading back on this comment I sound a little obsessive. I'm just a normal mama of 3 little ones though, lol.

  22. Was soooo excited for the show!! Hope they show more of the city. The mansion is about 2 miles from my house - but a different neighborhood-ha,ha. There were helicopters buzzing at odd hours (not just Mr. Smooth helicopter guy) and the lights were unreal. Don't know how many they brought in but you could see it way down the road.

The egg dude was a total freak. I bet she wished she could cut about half of that group!!

  23. I never even thought about it but you are so right! The show would be much cooler if the house was more modern and fun!

Guy with the egg - so weird!! :)

  24. I have followed your blog for awhile now & only now am I leaving a comment. Sad. It takes a post about the Bachelorette for me to comment. ;p I do love all your other posts but the Bachelor/Bachelorette is my guilty pleasure. There weren't many guys I thought were deserving of Emily. However, I really liked Ryan from Augusta! Super cute, seems like a great guy working with kids & he's a fellow Georgian! Thanks for showing us the house! <3 Heidi Rew from Parties for Pennies

  25. I think I have only missed one season of the bachelor. I rarely watch tv but my family knows I get a little grumpy if I miss my bachelor, I even have the hubs hooked. There were a few men that gave me the creepies. Do you keep up with reality steve? Don't google him though if you don't want this seasons spoilers.

  26. Great post Emily! I love the Bachelorette this season. I am totally thinking the race car driver might be the one. That's who I'm betting on. I hope she finds a good one whoever it may be.

  27. so funny - I was thinking the same thing about it being all gloomy. beautiful home - just way too dark for my liking.

  28. I wasn't in love with the house, and I have to defend "the egg guy", Travis. He is from my home town and a friend of mine. Poor thing was SO nervous. Im sure the egg thing played out way differently in his mind. In actual reality, he is a great guy and super confident and sweet and fun, not creepy at all. I felt so bad for him with his awful intro. Maybe he will redeem himself next episode!

  29. My money is on Ryan from Georgia, he seems normal, he's good looking, and I don't think a southern girl like Emily will be able to resist his southern charm and accent :) There were just too many bad ones to pick a least favorite!

  30. @Monica I love that you actually know egg guy :)

  31. If it gives you any comfort, I'm totally there in the gutter with you, rarely missing an episode of the Bachelor/Bachelorette so I'm loving the inside scoop on the mansion! Totally agree that the decor needs some serious help!

  32. Hahahaha---SO funny. And yes--I LOVE some good reality tv after a long day....An egg? And I have to agree---gloomy doomy. Not a fan. Beautiful land though.....it just needs some of your fine tuning--or should I saw overhaul? :)

  33. I watched that first reality show Joe Millionaire back in 2002-2003 - do you remember that one? After that I was done, too much awkwardness.
I saw a video clip recently of Joe Millionaire today, he looks shockingly different, the host of the clip said "he looks like a stepdad" and I seriously LOL! Don't know why that struck me as so funny!

anyway. yeah the decor looks like a hotel or something.

  34. I am calling it now I think it will be the ex pro football player who lives in GA. I think his name was Ryan.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, so many have already called it: Ryan, I think will win her heart...he kinda won mine! :) (just kidding)
And call me crazy, but one side of my schizophrenic self likes dark and castle-like homes.....but they probably should have changed it up for Emily, she would seem to like more modern, bright surroundings.

  36. I love to escape to TV for a bit after a long day, but I don't watch Bachelor/Bachelorette. LOVE It's a Brad World and Showtime. Oh, and Shark Tank has us hooked lately! That house is extremely unappealing.

  37. We love watching these shows! I agree it's a bit gloomy but nice property though.

  38. Hi Emily,
I found your blog through the Circle of Moms contest. I love reading your blog, we have very similar styles. I linked you through my blog & happened to click today. I have to tell you I am loving this season too, I feel a little shamful to say this but I have watched every season since it started:) Great pictures though!
    Have a great night!

  39. @ Emily, If I didn't know the egg guy, I'd think he was super creepy. Hard to watch, knowing him. I can't help but think the producers picked up on him being nervous and strongly suggested he bring a prop. ;)

  40. I can't believe I am just now reading this post. I'm sooo behind on my blog reading and would have loved to chimed in on this earlier.

I didn't really like any of the guys either. I guess I liked Charlie best because he seems genuine and because he is from Nashville. Sean also stood out in my mind. I'd probably like Ryan if he'd get a different haircut.

As for the creep factor -- the egg guy with 6 kids and the granny boy really scored high on the hurl factor scale for me.

About the house, I agree 100%. You know, the first season or two, Dark Shaddows decor was kind of popular. We all had brown walls with punches of red in our homes. The trend was definitely old world Tuscan back then, but enough already. ABC producers need a subscription to House of Fifty stat!

  41. I hate to say it but I love watching the Bachelor! I have not watched the first episode yet but I will definitely catch up when I get home!

  42. What I would like to see is a tour of Emily's own house! What I have seen, I LOVE! You dont know who her decorator is (is it you? Ha ha)
