Brightly Painted Trim

Since we’re on the subject of paint colors today, did you catch all of the brightly painted trim in this month’s “Green” House Beautiful issue?

These were two of my favorite photos from the issue:

Painting all of your trim and/or cabinets seems like a pretty big commitment, but I love the way it looks in these photographs.  Would you be so brave?

  1. Maybe I could do it, if I loved to paint, because I know I would need to change it up sooner than later! I think I'll stick with color in pillows and rugs--easier to change!

  2. oh! aren't they fabulous! I wish I where that brave...!
    but I am inspired!

  3. I feel so silly even writing this, but Tori Spelling had painted trim in her first son's nursery and it was soooo cute. It was bright orange and then she had blue wallpaper with octopus on it (if I remember correctly - it's been awhile). I LOVED the look.

  4. I LOVE green but I'm not sure that I could make that much of a commitment!

  5. Oh, man, I don't know. I'm pretty sure that would be too much green for me. Even if it is just the butlers pantry. I do like painted trim though, but I think I'd just pick an unexpected shade of a more neutral color.

  6. Would not do it! I would tire of it quickly. And I do not have a team of painters at my beck and call! Heck, it took 9 months for my husband to finish painting my daughter's room.

  7. Absolutely, especially if it were a blue gray color, in the right home. I guess that's the real issue, it takes a home with the right millwork to make this look right. Janell

  8. Though I love it I would not be so brave! It really does look great.

  9. Love it but couldn't commit to it. I admire those who can, though!
The word Kermit keeps coming to mind and I'm afraid I'd never get that out of my head lol

  10. I would never do that! When my mom bought her house the built-ins in the bedrooms were painted that color. Her house was a builder's home built in 1975 and was quite the show stopper in it's day! Of course it went to builder beige immediately...like before she moved in! Did I mention the green shag carpet? I do love to look at the pictures though but it is a huge commitment!

  11. I definitely wouldn't be that brave, but it does look amazing. :)

  12. i could never! i like when i see the all navy or black ones in mags/pics but i couldnt commit. partly because my MIL has this outdated wedgewood blue paint on all of her trim and it makes me cringe when i walk in her house. guess i couldnt get past it myself. but so pretty in the pics!

  13. I think if you're trying to call attention to detailed trim like they have here, it works. In the average house it might look out of place.

  14. I painted the trim in my old apartment. The "painter" I hired didn't do a great job, and there was some problems with the color choice so I always hated the way it looked. These examples are really pretty though.

  15. When I bought that issue, I was so intrigued with the green scheme. I totally forgot that it's St Patrick's day coming up ........ hence all of these refreshing and beautiful interiors.

  17. I have a green mudroom, I love it! Not sure if I could do a whole kitchen but I love it in the smaller space.

  18. LOVE it in that bedroom. I think I could do colored molding as a stain on new molding, then just paint it whenever I tired of it. But honestly it looks gorgeous! And I'm thinking stained wood wouldn't show dings and marks like glossy white does! (and those dang fingerprints!)

  19. WOW - I think I could do this! It is WAY out of the box for me but I love it! I am very monochromatic when it comes to my home but I love, love, love painted trim... so, yes. After all it's just paint if you don't like it, right? Thanks for sharing and have a terrific Thursday.

  21. I unforunately am not this brave but it does look beautiful! Maybe if I could afford to have someone paint it all for me :)

  22. Oh yes! When I saw these in HB I just sat and stared. So beautiful...too bad I'd never have the guts to paint the trim (let alone the walls!) that color.

  23. If I had a beautiful house like this I would, what makes it is the thick chunky architraves and cornice, mouldings etc.. That pulls it off!

  24. I like the way it looks too. I drooled a bit when I got my magazine in the mail. Still, I'm a wimp and couldn't do it.

  28. I think a room with trim and cabinets or shelves painted all the same color can look so chic. Definitely want to try it some day!
    Loved the new HB.

  29. It's kind of crazy that a girl like me who has no fear of painting dark colors on the wall literally shutters at the thought of painting trim anything but white or black. That being said I think it looks beautiful. I just don't have the guts to do it I guess.

  30. I would totally do it.....but of course I would be tired of it in 6 months.....:)

  31. I don't think I'm brave enough to really, honestly do it. I change my mind about wall colors every few years, so there's no way! I do love the drama it adds though, the look is awesome.

  32. I also love that kitchen photo. I'm not all the way through the issue yet but I'm enjoying it very much that's for sure.
