Since announcing on the blog that I’m expecting twins, I’ve received lots of emails from other moms of twins with great advice and encouragement. Lynn Byrne is one of those moms—and she just happened to mention that she also had some never before published photos of her home that she would be willing to let me share.
Besides being the mom of twins, Lynn is an interior designer just north of NYC and shares her inspirations on her blog, Decor Arts Now. Believe it or not, the original home was built in the early 1900’s and just six days after Lynn and her family purchased it in 2001, it burned to the ground. They began an extensive process of rebuilding and restoring the exterior back to its original charm.

I want to share one thing.
While the front outside of the house looks very much like the old house, NOTHING on the inside is the same as the old house.
The house (pre-fire) had all of the detail stripped out after a series of "remuddles"
So except for the front outside I didn't restore. Instead, I created detail that could have been there c.1900..
Tomorrow on my blog, I will share how I made new construction look old.

I LOVE this house! I'm really excited, I borrowed a picture to show my husband tonight! We have a large window in front of our sink and our range in the middle exactly like hers, except our pantry starts a little down from the range. We have been back and forth on whether to wrap the uppers around and put a single 12" upper cabinet on the other side of the window. I just couldn't get past it, it just didnt feel right. Also, how would the backsplash be on that cabinetless end...but this is perfection. I love the way the window has thick trim, so it is perfect to stand alone! So glad you featured this before I did something crazy to our new kitchen! HA :-) Thank you for sharing!!! Be Blessed!
I love how seamlessly modern and "of-the-moment" elements (bold graphics on pillows and art,Eames dining chairs, ikat fabrics) are blended into the classic look of the home.

I want to walk right in and sit down at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee! What an absolutely stunning and charming home. I'm glad to see Lynn and her family were able to recreate the detail after what had to be a nightmarish disaster. I will be 'pinning' a few of these images. Can't wait for part 2 tomorrow.
