Tommy is my dad, by the way. And, for those of you who supported him in his plight to save the incandescent light bulb, you’ll be glad to know that Christmas came early for him this year. Have you heard? Congress has reversed the upcoming ban on the old light bulbs! Read all about it here.

Nice tie, Dad.
Although the media says the light bulb industry has moved on and will probably quit producing the incandescent bulbs anyway, I’m hoping people like my dad will make them rethink that decision. At least it feels like a victory for him for now, anyway. And, he now swears people in Congress are reading my blog :) That makes him happy, too.

Too funny!
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious! Congrats to your dad. I love his tie and copious amounts of lightbulbs. It looks like Congress finally had a bright idea. (Please ignore the bad pun; I couldn't resist).
ReplyDeleteEmily, for 2012, you need a feature on things your dad likes and dis-like! Seriously, he needs to be a staple here on the blog! maybe once a month?!
ReplyDeleteHe is just too cool for words, lol!!!
ps, LOVE LOVE LOVE his tie!
just looked at the picture again... I swear its like a commercial! too funny:-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome post. That made me laugh out loud. Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I thought my Mom was the only one hoarding light bulbs! I for one will never switch to the nasty swirly bulbs, and I am so happy to hear your Dad's Christmas wish came true. Have a great holiday!

haha I love this!
ReplyDeleteI think your Dad is so awesome! I love his tie and evidence of lightbulb hoarding as well. I agree, your Dad needs to be a staple on your blog! So fun!
ReplyDeleteI bought a bunch of lightbulbs too and am so happy that they are not being banned as of right now. One of many reasons I do not like the new kind of bulb is that if one breaks I feel that it is not safe around kids especially! As a mom of a young son I know that potential breaks from balls flying, etc. could well occur in our home over the next several years.
ReplyDeleteHere is a great video that you and your dad may have already seen about the light bulb debate:

ReplyDeleteHilarious!
ReplyDeleteI just sent this article to my Color Theroy teacher, we had a whole class at Sylvania learning all about lighting and almost every interior designer was like what are you doing about this light bulb issue?
ReplyDeleteSo exciting!
Woo hoo! We can all stop hoarding, I think he has me beat! :)
ReplyDeleteMy aunt stocked up too, with over 400. I think she is set from now until kingdom come:)

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely hilarious!
ReplyDeleteWow! Congrats! I hope all of our comments made a difference!
ReplyDeletehaha Great pic. Did you see the segment on CBS Sunday Morning. We DVR it and watched last night. I thought of your dad. In it they talked about a LED light by a company the claims to be almost identical in warmth and glow of the old light bulbs. I wish I cold remember the brand. Anyway, it was a interesting segment Congrats for your Dad!
ReplyDeleteLaughing out loud b/c I totally thought of you and your dad yesterday in Target as I loaded light bulbs into my cart like there was no tomorrow. ;) Hurray for the reversal!
ReplyDeleteWell MERRY CHRISTMAS TO US! ;-) And to all a good night.
ReplyDeleteWOW ! I own the very SAME TIE! My kids use it to play! So funny!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Emily!
oh my goodness... soooo funny. and i am with your dad!! I will miss the "old school" bulbs
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking today that it shouldn't be up to the government to decide what type of lightbulbs are available. This is great news!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove!!!
ReplyDeleteYou go Tommy!!!!!!!!!!!!! You tell him that not only do I love the fact that he has an in with congress but with Santa!!!!!! Notice that I capitalize Santa not congress.... Anyway, I also love that he has such cool style -My husband wants that tie! Does this mean your dad and my husband don't have to hoard light bulbs anymore?

ReplyDeleteEmily.... you never fail to make me laugh. This is great.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this post and that photo of your dad cracks me up!! Merry Christmas to him and to his light bulbs (how easy would he be to buy for - just wrap a box of bulbs!), and to you and your family! Oh, and congrats on congress reading your blog. ;-) Who knew, eh? ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the outcome and that tie is just so Tommy. ;)
ReplyDeleteBelly laughing from your post! Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteHow cute is your Dad???? He could be a spokesmodel!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Emily! I actually thought of your Dad the other day, when I heard it on the news!
ReplyDeleteWell, my husband worked for congress and I read him your blog every now and then and even told him the story about your dad as we were in Lowes the other day. ;) Does that count?
ReplyDeletethe whole picture is hilarious, but really liking his choice for a tie!
ReplyDeleteLoved this. I too hate the new bulbs!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that pic of your dad! HA!! I couldn't agree with him more! I hate the new light bulbs. I hope that if people keep buying the incandescent bulbs they'll start manufacturing them again. Supply and demand, right?
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I have to agree - those mercury laced earth "safe" bulbs are decidedly not!
