Our Christmas Tree

We put our tree up over the weekend, and the decorating is primarily dictated by my kids.  In fact, I was seeing all white, silver and gold ornaments but my 7-year-old son insisted that red would show up better.  Okay.

Since we don’t have a tree topper, I brought in more branches and sprayed them white.

And, I had the kids make ornaments with their name, year and something that described them.  I’m hoping this will be a yearly tradition:

Our tree “skirt” cost me a whopping $9 for 3 yards of burlap:

We also did some furniture rearranging to make room for the tree, and I’m really liking the changes.  And, I’ll show you as soon as I get the rest of the room picked up :)

Want to see Christmas last year at our old house?  Here’s the post.

  4. Pretty ! My tree has kid ornaments all over it too. The thing about tree skirts is that they get covered up with presents.

  6. Hi Emily! I love your tree...it is the perfect mix of class and family. I mentioned in a post the other day that my head wants a magazine-perfect tree and my heart wants one full of kid-friendly colors and ornaments. I am glad that you are showing that both are possible! Now if only I could convince my husband that we should forego the colored lights...

  20. It's a thing of beauty. Remember when the bottom third of the tree didn't have anything or had the ornaments that could be chewed on by short people. Christmas trees are always beautiful because they are always dressed in love, no matter what.

  22. Beautiful tree! We did do all white, gold and silver in our tree this year. Our little guy is only two though so I'm thinking as the years progress and we have more homemade ornaments maybe we'll have two trees. The family tree and Mom's tree : )

  24. I love that you followed your son's advice. I think he was right about the red! One of our kids' favorite things at Christmas is decorating the tree with our mix of homemade and store bought ornaments. We have collected them over the past 18 years so they hold many memories!

  31. love the tree & living room :)
& actually I am loving that you dont have a topper. I really like it! I spent too much on an amber jeweled one last year & while it is gorgeous, its just big & almost is too much for the tree. I really may go to a "non topper" status after seeing your tree. :)

  32. The tree is gorgeous! And now of course I must have a burlap skirt for next year. Velvet is so passe. ;)

  34. Thank you, Kelly. I bought them a couple of years ago at a local home decor surplus outlet. But, I've been seeing lots of similar mercury glass trees in HomeGoods lately. . .
