Halloween Thoughts

We have a busy Halloween weekend ahead.  Is it just me or was Halloween just a one-night event when we were kids?  It’s a full three-day affair now, and I have to come up with regular costumes plus book character costumes for my school-aged kids.  (Do I sound like I’m complaining?!)

At least we’ve settled on costumes.  (Thank goodness Party City offers free shipping!)  We’ll have a one light-up vampire, a storybook witch and Olivia (the pig).  Makes perfect sense together, right?

I remember being Cyndi Lauper on repeat Halloweens. I loved that it meant I could get my hair spray painted orange. I wish I had that picture. . .

What was your best costume as a kid?

Back to design talk next week.  In fact, check back tomorrow and I’ll have a great giveaway from my sponsor and Etsy pillow shop, Elegant Touch.

  1. I loved going as a baby because it meant I could wear my pajamas! Also, one year my mom me a jack-in-the-box costume and it was awesome!!! I think I remember winning a costume contest and everything!

  2. I was either Madonna or a generic punk rocker for at least 5 years in a row. My mom made all of my costumes until I got old enough to make my own. It seems like costumes today are so much more elaborate.

  3. We must be of the same era...I started out as fairy princess for years on end, then graduated to Cindi Lauper (multiple years) and punk rockers. Ahhh, the 80's were so much fun!

  4. Absolutely one night and one night only!! Unfortunately my Mom still needed to make me two costumes for a number of years. I went to a Catholic school and we could only dress up as one of the Saints when Halloween was on a school day. I refused to go trick or treating in sackcloth and ashes (so to speak) in our mostly Southern Baptist town! Sooo, mom always had to make a secular costume too! One year she made a Saint Theresa (nun) costume and a pretty authentic looking Japenese Kimono. The thing is that Mom did not own a sewing machine, all of my costumes were handsewn!! Clever lady, my mom!

  6. Oh the memories from Halloween! I remember one year my mom made me be a crayola crayon because we had a friend we could borrow it from. I was so mad! My favorite year was in 8th grade my friends and I went as the Spice Girls. I was Posh Spice. And I do have pictures. And they are hilarious!

  7. I had no idea an Olivia costume existed, my girls LOVE Olivia (one is named Olivia too)...I will have to look next year!!! And I too had lots of fun dressing up as a Punk Rocker...I am guessing it will skip the girls generation.

  8. Please show an Olivia picture if you have a chance. I think she is the cutest little thing and hope my daughter grows up to like her - just too cute. I was a clown way too many years. But I was also a rocker at least a year or two.
