This is what I’ve spent way too much time this week doing.
It’s almost pointless to post pictures of the paint samples on the wall because the colors always change in photos. But, I went to Sherwin Williams over the weekend and got three paint samples for a possible living room/entry & hallway/kitchen combo.
I’ve become attached to this entire color card, and am thinking of using it throughout most of the house for a nice flow:
Here are the three samples I started with, and what I’m considering doing with them:
I’m hoping to get the living room nailed down first and move on to the other areas. So far, “Amazing Gray” seems to be pretty amazing, and has gotten the approval of my 6-year-old assistant. Here’s how the color looks in some other spaces:

And, since we’re on the subject of paint (Sherwin-Williams specifically), I received an email saying they’re having a 40% off sale on all of their paints and stains this weekend. So, if you have an upcoming project (and SW store close by), this is a great time to start—or at least buy your paint.

PS--Check back tomorrow for a great giveaway from my sponsor, SimaG Jewelry

(Although I've rarely posted on weekends in the past, I'm going to start running some fun giveaways on Saturdays, so don't miss out!)

i'm staring at swatches too, emily! it can be so intimidating! i obsess for hours! seems like your on the right track! ;)

Loving the amazing grey, it looks great. I am searching for a similar colour, looking forward to the finished product!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't being the one to name paint colors be the most fun job?? Also - look how spiffy those colors look against an AWESOME NEW RUG!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI tried Anonymous in my kitchen! It looked really green in my kitchen but as you know it's all about lighting.
ReplyDeleteLove your picks so far!
I like where you're going with this!! That Amazing Gray looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors, Emily!!
ReplyDeleteI chose Amazing Gray for my kitchen/dining/living area and could not be happier! It looks modern, but not cold. You will love it!
ReplyDeleteLove that whole color strip...those colors are so easy on the eyes and calming.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually comment but just had to today- my living room used to be the same color as yours, and I just painted it Amazing Grey (I was choosing between Wordly and Amazing). I am in love- it is the perfect color.
ReplyDeleteLove these colors too. I was considering Shoji White from my kitchen cabinets and saved the link to this home renovation that uses many of the colors from that paint strip. http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/2011/01/incredible-renovation.html
ReplyDeleteIn the comments of the room it says:
· Paint Colors – (all Sherwin Williams satin finish)
· Kitchen Cabinets and Walls -- Shoji White
· Trim – Worldly Gray
· Fireplace – Intellectual Gray
· Front and Back door – Urbane Bronze
· Exterior Trim – Anonymous
I love the Amazing Grey- wonderful choice! It's pure casual/elegance! Happy Friday!!
ReplyDeleteI've had my eye on Amazing Gray for my family room/kitchen for months now, but have been waiting for sale. Hooray! The time has come! Thanks, Emily! (P.S. I'm also super-excited that I chose the same color as a designer! Woo-hoo!)
ReplyDeleteWe just remodeled our kitchen and I had narrowed it down to Amazing Gray or Worldy Gray for our lower kitchen cabinets. I have this "thing" with names and was having trouble getting past that one sounded "holier" than the other - lol! In the end I fell in love with an old Martha Stewart color - Mourning Dove - and went with that. But those SW colors are great choices! Best wishes as you decide...it takes me forever to decide paint colors and I obsess and obsess. Hoping it's easier for you.
ReplyDeleteYour color choices are (no surprise of course) wonderful. What an opportunity to "start from scratch" with your home. I know you are using some things from your previous home but this really is a new beginning. I have often thought about selling everything I own and starting over. Sort of a pipe dream but I do think it would be fun. Best of luck.
ReplyDeleteMy living room is RL Cottonwood, but I think I may need to change it up to Amazing Gray now that I've seen this!!!
ReplyDeleteMy living room is RL Cottonwood, but I may need to change it to Amazing Gray! It looks like the perfect gray/beige. Can't wait to see the final photos of your new home. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI've done my whole house from the Sherwin Williams card that has Argos on it. The amazing gray does look amazing though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about the paint sale! I am looking at doing a couple of projects soon-- I guess I just need to make up my mind quickly and get over there to buy that paint!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for saving me some moula!!

I am loving all your posts about your new house as we just moved in one too! I love your choices. I used Mindful Gray in our living and dining rooms. When we moved in it was a dark red and that was the first thing I wanted gone!
ReplyDeleteSo great! I recently repainted my front room with "Agreeable Gray" from Sherwin Williams and it has been a big hit.
ReplyDeleteI love that swatch card, all of the colors are great. I used Urbane Bronze at the bottom as a starting point for my interior door paint color.
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously diggin' that Amazing Gray. Wheels turning in my head now...
ReplyDeleteOur whole house is painted in Worldly Gray. As a person that loves color, I thought it would be boring, but I actually love the way everything plays off it. It also looks so different at different times of the day. If you want to stop over and take a good look at it the next time you're at the Winkler residence, feel free!
ReplyDeleteYour wall looks very similar to mine. We just settled on Benjamin Moore's Horizon Gray, and I can't wait to start painting this weekend! The colour you chose is gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing how your room comes together.
ReplyDeleteGood choices! Do beware though about Anonymous looking a little green. That's what we have in our guest room... (with the infamous silver antlers) and I do love it, but it does read a bit more on the warmer side of grey than the cooler.
ReplyDeleteWe have SW Rare Grey in the adjoining hallway and Anonymous looks almost brown against the blue undertones of Rare Grey.
ps. We have SW Lattice in our kitchen and master bedroom and absolutely love it!
Just a little comparison for you... good luck!
what a pretty paint strip! Like the idea of using the different colors on it throughout your home. xoxo
ReplyDeleteAmazing grey is amazing! I'm loving your entire swatch right now :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing gray and worldly gray were on my list but agreeable gray looked best in our house with iron ore accents. Can't wait to see the result!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your process. I love Amazing Gray for the living room and we used Porpoise in the dining room - LOVELY!
ReplyDeletelove this! i wrote a post about picking gray paint colors today, too! haha love those sherwin williams paint swatches!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the outcome of your rooms. Anonymous looks really dark on the wall. Have you posted pictures of your kitchen yet? I'm sure whatever you pick will look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI painted my office with Amazing Grey and love it. Perfect background for anything, especially a busy space.
ReplyDeletelove sherwin paints. the amazing grey is just that AMAZING! in a room with little natural light the anonymous can turn green/grey. it might look different in a room with lots of windows. the lighter shades are a great backdrop for just about anything you might have planned.
ReplyDeleteEmily love Amazing grace and the name makes it even more speacial. Just think how fun it will be to same the name when people ask you what color you painted your living room. So many decisions when you get a new home, but fun to be able to make them with your talent, Kathysue
ReplyDeleteEmily, I painted my gallery wall & the living space upstairs all Amazing Grey w/ the hallway leading to bedrooms Mindly Grey. The 3rd color I'm adding to the mix is Pussy Willow. Changing my whole downstairs to these three colors. They are so beautiful. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteLOVE anonymous! We painted it in our house and it looked WONDERFUL next to our fresh, white trim! 5 stars for the color-- very elegant gray!
ReplyDeleteWe painted anonymous in our house and it looks great against our fresh white trim! 5 stars on the super elegant color! It's a wonderful gray!
ReplyDeleteWe just used this card for painting. I found the colors translated very light.
ReplyDeleteI have Urbane Bronze (the darkest) in my laundry room and wine room. It is fab!
ReplyDeleteI can see why you are addicted to these swatches. I like your picks for each room and can't wait to see them completed.
ReplyDeleteI used that chip once! It turned out great. Funny...I have six year old assistant that I listen to, too!
ReplyDeleteStacy
We painted our bedroom amazing gray and I LOVED it!!!! It was so clean and sophisticated. I bet it will look awesome...can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteHa! I just went to SW this afternoon...came home with 1000 strips and a sample of Sea Salt. Considering it or Comfort Gray for my kitchen (I want blue undertones to mesh with my navy glass backsplash, but want to brighten the room) You can also buy your paint off the shelf this weekend with the sale, then take it back later for free tinting. So you don't have to make a decision on the fly. OH, and he gave me a new color deck of colors released just this week!!!!!!! christmas over here!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Amazing Gray will live up to its name! So pretty! I definitely get bogged down when picking paintt colors (mine never seem to turn out EXACTLY right). Can't wait to see what you choose!

Pretty colors, and I like the idea of staying within the whole strip for a consistent flow. I'm especially curious about seeing "Anonymous" up on the walls.
ReplyDeleteLove these choices Emily. I've heard Amazing Gray is just that. That photo you featured from Isabella and Max Rooms is actually from one of Janell's clients, Kim, who lives Franklin, TN (where I live). I love her living room! Oh, and I recently did a post on Small Wall which is a product available at Sherwin Williams that allows you to paint large paint swatches on removable boards. Great product!
ReplyDeleteI love the amazing grey, I was hoping it would work in our house but it didn't. We ended up with the bleeker beige and have been hapy with it. Love all the color choices!
ReplyDeleteKristin XO
my guest room is painted Amazing Gray and I love it! Slept in there the first night I painted it!
ReplyDeleteI have used all of those colors...good choice! Love amazing gray....
ReplyDeleteJust finished painting our bedroom Worldly Gray and we LOVE it! Thanks for the inspiration!! I was also staring at paint swatches the day you posted it and thanks to You and the Sherwin Williams paint sale we now have a ton of painting to do.
ReplyDeletePainted our entire house off this swatch. Everyone loves it. Super awesome colors!
