It's always fun to see online decorating projects come to life. I love getting pictures of the finished rooms (or even small updates) in my inbox. So, it was a special treat when I actually got to see one of my online projects in person recently. Earlier this year, I helped Kelly, a friend of my cousin, with her master bedroom in DC. The baby shower that I attended just happened to be at Kelly's house, so you know I, of course, took some pictures of her progress while I was there.
This is the picture Kelly sent to me before we started:
Things were a little brown, as you can see. I suggested she lighten things up with new bedding and pillows and add more pattern and color by changing the heavy drapes to simple roman shades. We also broke up some of the wood tones in the room by adding some black painted finishes in the room.
This is the plan I sent to Kelly:
Although she's still waiting on bedding and roman shades to arrive, she's made some great progress:
I suggested she add a black, oval mirror above the bed to soften the straight lines and to tie in the new black nightstands.
We found the pillows on Etsy, which will eventually be paired with a khaki and white pinstripe duvet:
She's also lucky enough to have a sitting area in her bedroom, but this is how it looked originally:

She chose comfy, slipcovered chairs to make this space more user-friendly:
I had originally suggested an abstract painting for this spot above the chest of drawers. Kelly, who's a talented photographer, created her own art by using one of her cherry blossom photographs and putting it on canvas. I love how it turned out:
And, a final look at her view from the sitting area. Even on a rainy day, it's such a bright, happy spot.

Amazing how fresh it looks just with these changes. Love the canvas!
