That would be my cousin's baby--not mine. This past weekend, my oldest daughter and I took a road trip to Alexandria, VA, to go to a baby shower for my cousin who's expecting in May. While we were there, we also worked on finishing her nursery.
She had already selected the furniture and bedding/window fabrics. I just helped her pull the rest together.
Several weeks ago, I put together this idea board for the space:
This is the product of our efforts:
I love this shade of green. The wall behind the bed and an IKEA bookshelf she already owned was painted Benjamin Moore's Turning Leaf:
This is a Democrat/Republican household:
Our (kind of crooked) photo grouping in progress. . .
The rug is one of my favorite elements of the room. It was a Target find for less than $100:
Post updated to add: I always receive comments about babies and shade cords when I post nursery pictures. Rest assured, we're only using the bamboo shades in this space for texture and not function. The cords are securly tied up on the top of the shade. She plans to pull the curtains shut at night to block out light. If you're thinking about putting a crib in front of a window, please make sure you tie up any cords or just do another window treatment altogether. As a mommy of three, it makes me a nervous wreck to think about so I just wanted to put that out there. :)
I thought I would also share photos from her shower. As I've mentioned before, I'm not a party planner, but these decorations were adorable and simple enough that I might be able to handle it.
Instead of an all-out baby theme, the hostesses used lots of yarn to decorate the house. These cardboard letters can be found at Hobby Lobby and were so cute that we used them on the nursery bookshelves.

Love that green color! The nursery looks awesome! I think the owl is my favorite but I have a thing for owls. :) I'm sure she was so excited to have your help and ideas!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room! Your cousin may be unaware of the dangers of placing a crib close to shade cords...just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteLove the unexpected color scheme for the nursery! I found the crib placement interesting, though~ I was always worried light seeping through blinds would wake up little ones before I was ready! :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous! The rug really makes the room. I can't believe you found it at such a great price! The "baby" letters wrapped in yarn is also darling!! Just love your work.
