This seriously might be the scariest piece of furniture I've ever seen, but my husband would be in hog heaven if I designed a whole room around it. Yeah, it's not going to happen. . . .
For a long time, I think man caves have gotten a bad name--at least among us decorating types. However, I was delighted when I recently found these new photographs in the portfolio of Los Angeles-based designer Jenn Feldman.

It has some of the typical elements you might associate with a man room--leather sofa, sports memorabilia, etc.--but the overall feel is modern, clean and best of all, cozy.
One of my favorite things that she did was to paint all of the walls, doors and trim in the same navy color. It's a wonderful way to give the room that cave-like feeling, in a good way.

I also like the fact that she didn't paint this campaign chest and some of the other pieces. The wood shows up so warm against the dark walls. And, you might notice the client is a huge University of Kentucky fan (like my husband). Just goes to show you can show your true blue love without putting the recliner monster in your room.

Traditional plaid paired with a modern desk--such a great combination.
If you want to learn more about Jenn and her work, I did a fun interview with her soon after I started my blog. You can read more about her beautiful home, her design business and her connection to Oprah here.
.......
PS--My husband happened to look over my shoulder as I was writing this post, saw the UK recliner and said "Am I getting that???" I think it's safe to say we're not on the same page where the man cave is concerned. . .

I think deep navy hues are great for a masculine space! Thanks for the ideas, Emily!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful stylish space! Great tips for creating that masculine look without compromising on style. Now to find out more about Jenn... :)
ReplyDeleteScariest piece of furniture I have ever seen hands down!! I'm designing a sort of den/man cave for my guy (in my head for now) and I'm hoping to incorporate some navy & wood - such great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove all of the images - I am about to embark on a study for my hubby so need all the inspiration I can get! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very nice looking room for a spouse. It looks really comfortable but stylish.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we have to give in a little to get a lot in return. Everyone has a need to be comfortable in a home.
The desk is perfect! I hear ya girl, I finally broke down and said yes to the deer skull & antlers in our bar!
ReplyDeleteI convinced myself that it's trendy and modern.

Love the mirror you snagged by the way! I had to use in my post yesterday.
How ironic it this. I posted an article on "man cave" with my bedroom update today.
ReplyDeleteMr. Goodwill Hunting
Love that man cave...the chair your hubs wants, not so much!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely on board with this kind of man cave. Looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a big UK fan (we live in Lexington, KY) and we are working on his Man Cave - I'm sending him this link asap.
ReplyDeleteI let out an actual gasp at that recliner. Designer's worst nightmare! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is by far the best man cave I have ever seen. I love the warm wood against the navy and all the fabrics on the leather sofa!

Oh my goodness, that UK "barca" is just hideous!! Why oh why?!
ReplyDeleteAs I started looking at these pics, of course the UK '96 banner jumped off the page and I was like "hold up"!!! I LOVE IT! What a fabulously done UK room.
How about that stupid game last night?!?! Awful, right?
Do you know what her color is on those walls? I love it.
ReplyDeletewhat a gorgeous man cave! I have been going crazy over the past couple months making the "Man Mountain" at our abode as "girl-friendly" as possible while still maintaining comfort and LOTS of football memorabilia! I just posted new changes today! Check it out!

I spy the Jill Rosenwald rug in the last image! Can someone please tell my fiance to throw away his school flags, baseball newspaper covers and maps. He ACTUALLY thinks they will make it on our walls one day! {and I could really use the closet space where all of this is stored ...}
ReplyDeleteThe other day I came across a blog that had the most stylish man cave I've seen in a while and today she did a post about it.
ReplyDeleteCheck out http://abodelove.blogspot.com/
I would love this room for myself! I love the plaid and brown leather!
ReplyDeleteUmmmm yeah Michael would love to have a UK recliner. Sadly I know he would drool over this one if he saw it! Very cool man cave though. Love the color.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I have a friend who has that chair in his man cave! The first time we went to their house, I almost gasped when I saw that chair. To be fair, it was a gift but seriously, I would have had to regift it!
ReplyDeleteOoh, a man-cave I can get behind!
ReplyDeletelove the inspiration! i love the desk in the last picture. I gave a little "oohh aahh"!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I would totally let my husband have a room like that in the house.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a huuuuuge UK fan as well! I love this man cave. Classy yet spirited. Screams man/big blue with out being BIG BLUE. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI think a highly style man-cave can almost be a really cool feature of a room. I think the masculinity of the rooms can add a little something different. This one is so beautiful, and I totally agree with you- the warm wood is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSo funny! My hubby has taken over the garage as his man cave. A day doesn't go by that he doesn't remind me about the recliner I made him ditch the day we said "I Do!"
ReplyDeleteLove this color for a man cave. It's always nice when you can create a space someone loves and feels comfortable in, but without sacrificing style! This room does the trick!
ReplyDeleteawesome room...what a fun space to design! I have a navy blue guest bath, decorated in full blown mexico style (lots of tin mirrors, etc)...the color is so fun!
ReplyDeleteand great finds on your girl weekend!!
that man cave is awesome. my husband would be proud that I am reading a blog that has man cave inspiration:)
ReplyDeletei love that first image!
ReplyDeleteI did a man room for my husband, no florals but definitely a woman's touch. Also, it is the first room you see when walking in the front door so it's definitely not a "cave"
ReplyDeleteThat last comment by the hubbs is classic...and hilarious! I love the inspiration pics, perfect blend of masculine and refined....(c:

I don't have a house of my own just yet, but when that day is coming I like to style it in a masculine look. I kind of like it that way.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like your ideas!
Love it! That desk is amazing.....very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to have a nightmare about that recliner!
ReplyDeleteOoh, thanks for sharing this! I'm designing a bachelor pad this spring, and this is great inspiration (minus, of course, the first picture!)
ReplyDeleteLove this.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's obsession is the University of Alabama. Oh how I hate the color crimson for anything but t-shirts.
I wonder if I could do a Navy room with crimson accents...not sure if he'd go for that.
I am so "stealing" some of these pictures! Still in the process of getting the office done at our house - which is my husband's "room", his man-cave. I had already planned on painting the doors and moldings the same color as the walls, but this is a great visual. Love how it all turned out!
ReplyDeleteMan Cave done right! And yes, my husband would so think that ugly recliner would be stylish too.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is amazing inspiration; I love the deep navy. I gave you the stylish blogger award today; I'm so excited to connect with another local blogger!
ReplyDeleteWhoa...that blue chair was pretty scary!!! But the stylish man cave is a "woman's" dream.....ha ha
ReplyDeleteSuch a stylish masculine space. Great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny that you just posted about Jenn Feldman again because I recently (as in today) found your blog after Googling around trying to find images of her house from the Oprah show. There is a man cave in my future too so this is going right in the inspiration folder!
ReplyDeleteGreat room...every detail is considered! Some of the frames even match the furniture. I have a mancave in my future as well so I can definitely use the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThe third image is my favorite. I like it's design coz of the color combination and arrangement. I've seen a similar table design which I really like in a friend's newly-built cottage. My husband told me that we'll buy the same kind of table for our home office.
ReplyDeleteOur home office design will surely reflect an office space in Charlotte, NC. I've been dreaming to have a cozy and modern office space. Charlotte, NC furniture stores sell the kind of desk that I really like. So, it's possible to have my dream home office.
I am just coming across this post now, but this is exactly what i need as inspiration! My fiance wants to turn our rec room into a "man cave" and we actually purchased a brown sofa similar to yours. He wants the walls painted DARK and I was very hesitant it would not match. I love what you did with the space. Do you remember the color paint you used??
