After some bright paint and new hardware, this lovely piece is going in Sara's daughter's room:
My favorite part of Sara's update is the new hardware.
The bamboo-style pulls give it a completely different look. I can easily see this piece used in a grown up space.
There are so many of us who had this same bedroom set growing up and still have pieces left over. In case you have an extra piece or two sitting around, I asked Sara to share her technique for painting it (since this style often has a glossy finish):
"We used oil based paint . . . We did not sand it because some of the surface appeared to be laminate. My husband just coated it in primer first (we used Zinsser’s oil-based primer, great stuff). He then used a roller to apply the paint and then used a brush to get some of the tiny crevices.
The hardware actually came from Lowes, if you can believe it! I loved the pulls and how they kind of look like bamboo." The knobs are from the same collection, also found at Lowes.
Thanks, Sara, for sharing your makeover with us. Tune in to Southern Comfort to see the rest of the room soon.
