After some bright paint and new hardware, this lovely piece is going in Sara's daughter's room:
My favorite part of Sara's update is the new hardware.

There are so many of us who had this same bedroom set growing up and still have pieces left over. In case you have an extra piece or two sitting around, I asked Sara to share her technique for painting it (since this style often has a glossy finish):
"We used oil based paint . . . We did not sand it because some of the surface appeared to be laminate. My husband just coated it in primer first (we used Zinsser’s oil-based primer, great stuff). He then used a roller to apply the paint and then used a brush to get some of the tiny crevices.

The hardware actually came from Lowes, if you can believe it! I loved the pulls and how they kind of look like bamboo." The knobs are from the same collection, also found at Lowes.
Thanks, Sara, for sharing your makeover with us. Tune in to Southern Comfort to see the rest of the room soon.

Oooh I love it! Can't believe that hardware came from Lowes.

I love it! I had that same dresser in my room growing up :)
ReplyDeleteGood choice on the hardware. I'm surprised that Lowes carried something of that design. Good find!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Such a great update.
ReplyDeleteHow is that for a pop of color!
ReplyDeleteSo great.. :)
I can't tell you how many times I've passed on this dresser because it was just too 50's girls room. But it looks so sophisticated after this makeover - I'm a believer!!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what some paint will do! It looks great! In my daughters room we painted an old dresser I used growing up and it looks new again (with a vintage flair!).
ReplyDeleteOhhhh----love the hardware!
ReplyDeleteThe transformation is stunning. Love it. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteYes, everybody had this furniture! It looks great painted. We painted mine WHITE for my Girl's room. I am NOT shocked at the Lowe's hardware though...and not really sure why anyone else is? Lowe's has lots of great stuff...no, I am not employed by Lowes! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Hardware from Lowes - no way??
ReplyDeleteFrench Provincial furniture {especially freshened up with a crisp coat of paint} is adorable for a little girls room! And how neat that you had a similar set when you were growing up! Can't wait to see what you design you create for the bedroom...it's sure to be gorgeous!

I snagged one of these 17 years ago for $5 and repainted it green for my (then) baby daughter. She still has it -- we've changed the hardware twice to update it, but the oil-based paint job has withstood 17 years of use and two moves. Hope hers can stand the test of time, too! Great piece.
ReplyDeleteI have several pieces just like this in my parents' attic from my childhood set. I'm now wishing I had them in my OWN attic for experimentation with color!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Emily! Loving that hardware.
ReplyDeletelove it, reminds me of the teal dresser jenny posted in her foyer

ReplyDeleteI had that same furniture growing up! Wish I still had it :(. Emily I awarded you the Stylish Bloggers Award today on my post. I am sure you have already done it. But it seems to be flying around again!

Just darling. I love the color and the hardware is amazing. Makes me want to revive some childhood furniture of mine!
ReplyDeleteEmily and Sarah, I have two night stands that need to be painted and this gives me the push to do it. Nothing as fun as the lime green but high gloss white will make a huge difference in these pieces, Thanks Kathysue
ReplyDeleteLove the hardware! And oil-based is definitely a must for furniture, especially if it has a laminate top!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely transformation...
ReplyDeleteand the color is so lively,
