This was her little boy's playroom before the makeover (not bad, if you compare it with the way ours looks right now!):
Caycee's only requirement was that the window treatments stay in the room. With that in mind, this is the idea board I came up with for her:
Ideas for Caycee's space that anyone can use in their playroom:
- Storage! I love incorporating a big storage piece (like the white armoire) that can hold lots of toys now, but could easily be moved to a living room or guest room down the road. Dressers with lots of drawers are also a great option.
- A fun rug can add alot of personality to a kids' space. You probably won't want (or need) alot of furniture, so they can have as much open space to play as possible. A rug can bring in alot of color and is a great, soft place to lounge, roll around, wrestle each other. . . . at least that's what my kids do.
- A framed chalkboard or bulletin board provides function and becomes instant artwork on a large wall. Paint the frame a fun color!
- Wall decals are affordable and removeable once you want the space itself to grow up. For Caycee's space, I suggested some cute alphabet decals that I found on Etsy.
- Low bookcases offer additional storage but can also be used as a TV console, for lamps, trophies, a place to display their crafts, etc.
- Don't be afraid to use "grown-up" elements in a kid zone. For example, you can throw in a more adult pattern--like the storage ottomans I included on her idea board--for a fun mix. As long as the fabrics are somewhat kid-friendly, it's a nice surprise to include some patterns you wouldn't normally think of for a play space.
And, using inspiration from the idea board, here's how Caycee pulled the room together to create a fun, inviting space for her little boy:
