I had never heard of the elf until reading about it on a blog over the summer. and I am a little bit over the top about Christmas. Do you think it's a regional thing?
we have one but my daughter hasn't really gotten into him yet. What age do they really start to enjoy him? She is 4 1/2 so I am hoping this year she will "get him". thecoolkidsblog.com
Not sure of what Elf on a Shelf is but our elves visit Christmas Eve and leave Christmas PJ's on all of our beds while we are at church! They're sneaky!
I've never even heard of the elf on a shelf thing but I have some of those little fellas. I haven't put them out the past few years and now I'm all charged up to get them out!
I found a vintage elf at the thrift store last year and he's already in the sitting position. Im thinking its meant to be elf on the shelf...or at least thats what Im calling him. I just put him on our Cmas tree. My hubby thinks hes freaky looking though:)
We had one of these elves when I was a kid (that we put out every year) but I never knew the story until a few years ago. I'll have to ask my mom to find that little guy so I can start the tradition with my daughter :)
Instead of the elf, I use the wisemen in my preschool class. They move every day on their journey to the baby Jesus and the kids love trying to find them everyday. He's a cute little guy though ;-).
No offense to all the elf lovers, but we don't do the little elf on the shelf. I just don't agree with the concept. I know it's supposed to be fun, but it's just dishonest enough that it comes across as lying to my kids. Just can't get on board...
My kids love our elf! I live in Marietta, Ga where the author/creator and her mom live.
Several years ago, they came to our preschool holiday market and sold the elves and story books. The book is based on a story the author was told as a child about a very special elf who returns every year to watch over children and report back to Santa each night while they sleep. She signed every book that she sold!
It is crazy to see how big it has become over the years. It seems like the elf is everywhere this time of year!
Our Elf show's up tomorrow. Since my kiddies are between 10 and 15, we had to change it up a bit last year. We use him as a countdown to Christmas. When the kiddies find him each day, a little present is with him and a tag saying how many days until Christmas.
OMG - that is TOO cute!! I've never heard of it - but now I want one!! Nice to meet you Emily! Spotted you today over at Rashon's Mr. Goodwill Hunting's - 30 Days of Thrifting series!
I had just heard about the Elf a couple months ago. So I ordered one and we started it Sunday after Thanksgiving. My 4 year old loves finding him every morning, and he gets mad if he forgets to move sometimes. (whoopps)
So cute... our elf, "Yadi", named after the St. Louis Cardinals' catcher, is here in full-swing. He even left our boys a plush Elf on the Shelf for them to sleep with, and they LOVE them!!
It's a magical time, isn't it?
Merry Christmas, and thank you for your continued posts during this busy season... I love hearing from you!
