The Great Lantern Debate

I've blogged about how much I love lantern pendants before and when I can't get something off of my mind, that's usually a good sign that I won't grow tired of it once it's permanently installed in my home.

The folks at CSN Stores (you know, the ones that offer everything from bed sets to lighting to accessories and everything in between!) have kindly offered to let me review one of their products.  Just so happens, they have a pretty nice selection of my beloved lantern pendants.  It's like a sign. . .

I'm itching to replace the fixture above our breakfast table.  And, after much online browsing, I've narrowed it down to these two:

Maxim Lighting Cage Pendant in Oil Rubbed Bronze - 7113OI

Living Well Rubbed Bronze Lantern - 8018RB

I'm leaning toward the first one, although I did find this picture of the second one and it looks pretty awesome. . .

I'm also trying to decide between the 24" and 33" sizes.  I think big lanterns make such a statement, but I don't want anyone to knock themselves silly at dinner time.  They are striking though, aren't they?  Maybe I'll take my chances :)  Decisions, decisions. . . .

  1. Love them both but my personal opinion is option #2 in large. I'm sure whatever you do will look fabulous!

  4. You definitely can't go wrong between the two shapes but in this case I think bigger is definitely better!

  5. Both are gorgeous! My personal favorite is the first one because of the two tiers of lights. I think it would be so pretty lit up in the evening!

  11. Great choices. Im kind of loving the chinoiserie feel of the second one. As far as size is concerned, you know to watch the scale. You'll make the best choice!

  12. I'm loving lanterns too... I would love to have one in my entry way. Like you, need to find just the right size. Proportions are so important in design.

  13. I'm a fan of the larger, more square lanterns (like #2). I keep debating one for my entry. I have chandeliers everywhere (and love them), so I thought a lantern might be a refreshing change.

    Have fun!

  14. Stunning pieces Emily. I'm partial to 24" square one.

  15. They're both gorgeous ~ I personally love the first one, can't wait to see what you choose!

  16. I love your taste, but I can't say I care for the lantern trend. I feel like most look very 1960s and not in a good Mad Men way--in a bad, black wrought iron way.

  17. I love lanterns. I vote for number one because I think you will like it longer. But they're both great. Lucky girl!

  18. Oh, I love the slightly pagoda inspired lines of the second fixture, but either one will look great!! Janell

  19. I adore number 2 because it is different and I say go big!! I don't think you will regret it! What are a few bumps on the head when it will look awesome!!

  20. I think I like the second lantern better because it is more open than the first. But really, you can't go wrong with either one.

  21. I'm lantern obsessed at the moment, in fact I just did my foyer reveal post today and what do you know there is a lantern involved!

  22. Oh, thanks! I was loathing my lanterns, two of them, in the front room. But now I think maybe all they need is some black spray paint.
