Be sure to check out my first post, "5 Reasons to Shop Goodwill for Home Decor."

My latest Goodwill find was this $2 toucan. I think he has alot of character and have decided not to paint him. (The lamps were a recent consignment shop purchase.)
Do you shop at Goodwill for your home? If so, what have you found lately?

I seem to donate more than I buy, but it's always fun to look. We have a consignment shop in Houston with some really great stuff, but you have to hit it at exactly the right moment or the stuff you love is gone. I've never had the joy of a $2 find. how fun!
ReplyDeleteEmily, I love that brass toucan, I've started a little collection
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting and yes, I love me some Goodwill! Congrats to you.

Like LLH, I donate all the time to Goodwill, but rarely shop there. I just haven't had the best luck to date! But it is a great business, does a lot of good! Love your toucan, and congratulations! Janell
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Goodwill. I am known as "that girl" amongst my circle of friends who finds all of my finds at Goodwill. Well, to be honest, I find a lot there but let's not forget about Salvation Army, craigslist, garage sales, etc. Some complain that they just never find anything at Goodwill and I think they aren't there often enough because the supply changes DAILY. How could you not find something? My latest find was a 2 foot tall white ceramic Christmas tree (yes the kind you find at Grandma's house) with the little plastic bulbs in it. This one is lit by candlelight, not lightbulbs. I am planning on a "vintage Christmas" for our first Christmas in this house and I am excited to use it along with my aluminum Christmas tree I just got at a garage sale. The best part is it was 99 cents! That's even good for Goodwill! Sometimes, I think they can be a little overpriced, but that's just the cheapskate in me. :) Can't wait to check out you blog post and I love your little toucan. I would've snagged him too.
ReplyDeleteGoodwill is one of my favorite haunts. Sometimes the best stuff is found there. Love your toucan. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI have never shopped at Goodwill - until I started reading all these decorating blogs ;o) & now I'm a Goodwill junkie like the rest of you! Oh holy pickles - LOVE! On my blog I have posted some of my Goodwill treasures! :)

ReplyDeleteHey Emily, I just got a curvy brass lamp at Goodwill last week that I painted white for our bedroom. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love reading all of these comments about how you love shopping in our stores! If you'd like to contribute images of your fave Goodwill finds, we've got a photo group set up on flickr, and we'd love it if you'd add our Wow! Goodwill blog to your blogroll or blog reader so you can catch all of Emily's great posts!
ReplyDeleteYep, Goodwill junkie and my best one has a 50% sale every other weekend - scores. My latest bargain wasn't for my house, it was a cute blazer from Barney's!
ReplyDeletei absolutely love shopping at goodwill for my home. i also love the habitat for humanity store, and my local thrift store that supports our area rescue ministries. i just found your blog and now i'm following you! can't wait to get to know you better via blogdom. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI miss the days when there was a Goodwill on my (3 mile) daily commute. I used to stop in at least once a week to hunt for treasure. My favorite finds include a fabulous mid-century side table, vintage sheets that became a quilted bedspread, and a few frosted glass tiki goblets that I filled with succulents.
ReplyDeleteNow the closest Goodwill is more than 15 miles away, but I work within a couple miles of the best consignment shops and antique malls in the area, so I don't miss it as much.
What a fun find, loving shopping Goodwill & Salvation army you just never now what you'll find :) Last thing I found there was a great heavy vase to tuck inside our bookcases :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the toucan -- I need to seek out a better Goodwill...mine has nothing but clothes, old phones and glasses.
ReplyDeleteThat toucan is awesome. I totally would have bought him. For those who haven't found good stuff, you have to go a lot to find things or just be lucky. At some stores, they have specific days when they put out new stuff. At mine, they put out stuff constantly. I go on Fridays before the weekend rush, but I would guess that Mondays are great days with all of the weekend donations. Here's a post about my recent Goodwill lamp makeover -

All the time! Lately, I've found a couple of ginger lamps for around $4, but my best find was my faux bamboo mirror for $8 - http://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/bargain-hunter-bamboo-mirror.html
ReplyDeleteNever knew goodwill had a blog! Off to check it out!
The lamp is gorgeous and the little bird is so cute... great finds!

Emily, Yes and a double Yes!! I call it Goodwill Hunting!!! I have found some great things at GW and I have done a few post on my , what I call treasures. It is treasure hunting because ever once in awhile you will find a treasure. My best treasure was Wedgwood plates from the 1940s in cream, love them and did my whole Thanksgiving table around them. I love your Mr. Tucan he looks very current with all the funky animal pieces that are out right now. Glad to see we are kindred spirits!! KATHYSUE
ReplyDeleteLove Goodwill. Love to swing thru and see what they have. Love a great bargain. Best part is you can swing thru 5 times and find nothing, then Wow, you find something on the 6th time and you are so glad you went.
ReplyDeleteI actually have a Goodwill about 5 minutes from my house that gets all of the nearby Target salvage items (which includes all online returns) every week. I don't know if it is this way everywhere, but my store has 50% off day every other Saturday. Anyway, my kitchen table, bedroom dresser, tv stand and more is from Target but at a great discount from Goodwill. I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI just found a Goodwill near our new home, but have only been once. I'm thinking it's a place you have to visit often to find the "must have".
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I found a wonderful antique silver tray that I keep on my kitchen table with a vase. An old table that I repainted and re-purposed for our living room. And I especially love the old frames I find!
ReplyDeleteI just started shopping Goodwill after reading all the decorating blogs and looking at the treasures found by others. I go several times a week. Sometimes you don't find anything and sometimes your in the right place at the right time. My latest find was a metal rooster, about 18 inches tall, was in perfect condition and the best thing...he was only $3.40. What a deal !

That lamp is amazing! Is that Good Will as well?
ReplyDeleteYes! I love shopping at Goodwill! I find so much great stuff there that I actually started my own blog called Thrift and Shout (thriftandshout.blogspot.com) to encourage others to try thrift shopping too! Love your finds and your blog!
ReplyDeleteI have been picking up frames and some nifty little boxes I can't wait to paint up for accent pieces. <3 your style. The last blog I looked at made me want to cry. I liked her before pictures better than the after. Part of the great thing about Goodwill shopping is your are, often, making something ugly beautiful.
