The TV Console That Almost Was. . .

Remember my fabulous Goodwill deal that I blogged about several weeks ago?  Thought you would enjoy seeing the before and after pics:

And, the after: (Ignore all those cords; do they make you as crazy as they make me?!)

And, now for the sad part of this story. . .After painting it and putting in my house, I realized that our cable box wouldn't fit inside.  "Lessons in Design 101": always measure first!  We tried squeezing the box on the top and it just bugged me way too much.  Plus, the piece seemed to get lost on the long wall.  So, off to Craigslist it goes, and hopefully I'll make enough profit to cover the replacement I already bought (will share that later). . .

Anybody in Charlotte looking for a pretty console? :)

  3. That happened to me too! We ended taking out a shelf and standing up the cable box vertically. I feel your pain!

  5. It's so pretty!
I'm actually heading up to Charlotte tomorrow for a long weekend to visit my sister. I will ask her if she is needing a piece like this but I know their tv is on the wall above the fireplace mantel, so not sure. We are re-decorating her apt though so maybe it could come in handy. I will let you know! I wish I could bring it back with me but then there wouldn't be in room for the kids!

  7. That looks very much like a console I am going to try to by today at a thrift store. I saw it yesterday and would have grabbed it, but it wouldn't have fit in my car. Crossing fingers its still there now that I have hubby's van.

Anyway, sorry your pretty thing doesn't work for you. Hopefully you will find a buyer.

  9. Yikes...I feel your pain. That actually happened to me with a client...opps!! I called a TV installer and we put the cable box in a closet near by and she got this "special" remote control that uses "wifi". That cost me less than "eating" the piece. This design business has quite the "learning curve" :)

  22. That is terrible! Whenever I do a project, it is like one of my children! Not really...but I would have a hard time parting with them! (c: But it did turn out beautifully!

  24. oh no, that is so sad!

If it makes you feel any better, I had found this craigslist bookcase that was PERFECT for my office. I had the measurements and was like oh yea, that will totally fit in the car. Well, after driving for 30 min to go see it (and fall in love with it) I realized it was NEVER going to fit in the car, let alone in my apartment. So sad, but a total lesson learned haha
