Online Decorating Project: Caycee's Guest Bedroom Makeover

You may remember my online decorating client, Caycee, and her beautiful family room update. Since then, she also asked for my help with her guest bedroom.  I was happy to take on the challenge, especially since she had the same problem many of us have--a bedroom full of furniture that she had grown up with and had to somehow incorporate.

Before:

I thought the lines of the bed were really pretty, but the all-dark wood matching set made the room feel heavy.  The solution: lighten things up with lots of paint and beautiful accessories.

Some inspiration pictures I clipped while working on her design plan:

And, the finshed idea board:

To lighten things up, I suggested she paint the bed (the focal point of the room) black and break up the set of furniture by painting the other pieces white--all of this against a light gray wall color.  We then brought in black and white accessories and a beautiful crystal drum chandelier for sparkle.

After many hours of work on Caycee's (and her husband's!) part, the room went from this:

To this:

After:

Thanks, Caycee, for allowing me to share your beautiful guest room makeover!

  21. Beautiful. Just beautiful. And I love how the bed stayed dark and the dressers went white. I've been trying to think of something to up the wow factor in my master, and maybe that's it. But I doubt hubby will be hip to painting the furniture. Hmmmmm.

  30. Emily - you are gonna be my go-to girl next year when we redo our playroom. I just know you'll make our room as fresh and cozy as this room. Kudos to the client for using amazing photos and not being afraid to make a big print of a children's photo that doesn't contain a face, but captures a mood. It makes the room!
