Goodwill Hunting

Earlier in the week, I stopped by Goodwill (baby in tow, strollers in van, etc.) and found this for $20:

(It reminds me alot of my sister's dresser that I blogged about here.)

Since I had my hands full and no way to get it home, I left it there.  But, of course I kept thinking about it. . .

So, I went back.  And, found this newly marked price tag:

Yes, I think that was God's sign that it should probably be our new TV console :)  I painted one coat of gray this morning but I think it's going glossy white tomorrow to match our bookshelves.  And, I'm still debating on what to do with the pulls.  I think I'll just clean them up.  Here's a sneak peak:

Also at Goodwill, I found this urn for $2 (just stuck a moss-covered ball from Michael's in it) and this painting for $4.  Not sure if it says "tacky" or "I have character," but I thought I might paint the frame and see if I get inspired.

What have you found at Goodwill lately?  I just love the thrill of the hunt.

  2. I have been on the lookout for a sideboard just like that...$9.99, I can't believe it!
A couple of days ago I scored a blue glazed pot/urn (which is now white) and a box of painted wooden fruit for $2 (which will soon be white). So much fun:o)

  5. I can't believe you got that chest for $10! I just got a really cute french chair at Goodwill for $8.00! In great shape, too! Painted it white and changed the upholstery - looks like a million bucks. Can't wait to see the total picture!

  12. Stunning! I would like you to know that your blog post about redoing the clients bedroom and painting the dark wood furniture spurred a debate in our house... after I commented and said I might be inundating you with emails on how to re-decorate our new rental in California the preppy boyfriend found a bed he liked on craigslist and I said....oooohhh I would love to paint that bed... and he said you can't paint wood... and I replied painting furniture is one of the easiest ways to re-do a room, there are just some things boys don't understand :) so I may need lots of great and wonderful examples of repainted furniture when it comes time to re-decorate. Also, I haven't had time to browse your whole site, but it's looking like we probably won't be able to re-paint the rental, and I think the walls are just plain white (I hate plain white walls), I was thinking of using draperies to cover up some of that plain whiteness (although the room has 16 foot ceilings) but have you done any decorating jobs that have used draperies, or do you have any inspiring images, or resources were I should be looking for that sort of inspiration....

whew I think I hijacked enough of your comment space without saying anything about your actual post! That console has great potential I think it will look stunning painted glossy white... didn't habitually chic blog do something like that for a store display a few months ago?

  14. Great score! I was at Sally Ann the other day and I think whoever prices out their stuff reads blogs because everything is priced high. Hmm... I think they are onto us!
Maybe if I persevere a great deal will come up! I have found some great stuff though, I should complain too much :) Just haven't gotten around to blogging about it!
Thanks for the email too, I will let you know when I repaint the bookcases!

  16. I just saw a similar console this morning at my local Goodwill for $15. I soooo wanted to bring it home with me, but same deal...it wouldn't fit in my car. Hopefully it will be there when I go back. Love what you're doing with yours and can't wait to see the final product!

  23. Well this was an interesting find. If memory serves me correctly, this bureau looks like my in-laws old bedroom set circa 1969.

BTW I didn't get a chance to post earlier but I totally love your family room.

  29. I never seem to have any luck thrifting. I think it's a serious lack of patience on my part. I think painting the frame is exactly what that pic needs. Good luck.

  34. That's impressive! It's not Goodwill, but I had a few glasses of wine and sat down at the computer......and bid on these Hollywood Regency chairs. I got them for $11.50 each! (Plus $99 shipping). They are truly hideous with great bones. Now, I just need to decide what color to paint them and what fabric to reupholster them in!
