Unfortunately, our home doesn't have one. . .There is an open entry, but no walls to put a pretty chest, a big mirror, lamps, etc. This is when you've got to work with what you've got. This is how our sad entrance looked up until a few weeks ago:
And, after my meager attempt to give it a little life:
My upside-down-garden-stool-turned-umbrella-holder:
I also added a bright red crab print (a gift from Laura) by the front door. I'm not sure what having a crab by your front door says about you, but I think it's a happy touch :)
Next step? This front door is going black:
So, what statement does your entrance make? It's been a while since my last reader participation post, but I do love seeing your spaces. Email me a picture of your foyer or entry, along with a link to your blog (if you have one) and I'll post reader pics a week from today, Wednesday, July 7th. Can't wait to see what you've got!

I'm still working on finding the perfect bench for my foyer.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering something about yours though. Would it be possible to wallpaper or paint the vestibule area? A friend used to have a similar entry an she papered just that area. I liked the way it gave importance to that area of her home.
The door will look very striking painted black! Classic. My entry is has one short wall and then there is room for an entry with a long expanse of wall, but placed several feet into the house. It is a very awkward space to work with...

Currently, our front door says - Don't Come In.
ReplyDeleteHowever,
We are rectifying that this weekend. We are changing both our front and back doors. Woohoo.
I love the print of the crab in your entrance! I'm hoping you get lots of great pictures from your readers - I have a good sized entrance but it is completely bare at the moment (I hope to rectify this soon!) and is not welcoming AT ALL. I need some good inspiration!
ReplyDeleteEmily, this is the first home I've lived in that doesn't have a true foyer. You step right into the living room. I do have a wall big enough for a chest, though. I'll send you a photo, this will be fun! And you garden stool turned umbrella holder is pretty clever!
ReplyDeleteoooh E I think it looks great and the crab (which is of course fab) gives it a very nice touch! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI think your entrance is very pretty and much better than the one that I have to work with, sniff. If I can make mine presentable enough, you might receive an email from me :)

Love the use of the garden stool in your foyer--and the crab print!
ReplyDeleteI have the front of my door painted flat black, but the interior side is still the original white. I'd like to paint the whole thing glossy black. Will you share any handy tips after you paint yours? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe crab is a great pop of red! I just painted my interior front door black....which has led to a new rug, and than a mirror project. Thanks for the motivation to get it done this weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm noticing a big trend of black entry doors lately and I must admit they all turn out fab!
ReplyDeleteLove the crab print, Laura is so talented =)
And the umbrella holder: genius!
I think your door will look great painted black ! My entry is an odd shape and needs to be painted, just can't decide on a color....
ReplyDeleteI love this...the entrance of the home always speaks to what you'll find inside...or so it should at least..

I love that you want to paint your door black! I do too, I have a door that is painted black on the inside but white on the outside (passed owners doing). All the little touches you've added look marvelous.

Your mini foyer looks so great! The black is going to look amazing too. Looks like I have some work to do to my entry if I want to participate!
ReplyDeletei LOVE LOVE the idea of a black door. That is so unexpected!
ReplyDeleteI'm just thinking...what about a lime green.....I noticed in your portfolio that you have some green pillows in your LR???
ReplyDeleteWow! It's amazing how much impact just a few items can make! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'll soon be in the same dilemma with our entry being the kitchen/living room! What's a girl to do?! Your freshening up looks great (great idea to use your garden stool upside down!) and I CANNOT WAIT to see that door black! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love a black front door!! It's going to be just perfect in your foyer!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't dare send a photo of my front hall in it's current condition but I do love your new and improved entrance. I think the black door will be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteLooks great. The black door will be wonderful. I hear BM enamel paint is wonderful http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HzpqGt5NyaY/SmUtuuYlONI/AAAAAAAADLs/_FfKdiAdefs/s1600-h/IMG_6290%5B4%5D.jpg
ReplyDeleteEmily...one more color to look at instead of black...BM kingsport gray HC-86 or BM texas leather AC-3. My two favorite colors that go with everything!!!
ReplyDeleteOh SUPER nice...I love the idea of a black door inside as well... This is IDEAL for people who have HOA'S and cant just paint their exterior doors!

Emily I think you have done all the right touches for your entry, Love the idea of the black door that will really define the space. I think a tall floor mirror mimicking the door would look great. You know me I put a mirror in every room sometimes more than one!! I love the way they reflect the light, Look forward to participating in your entry post on Wednesday!! Kathysue
ReplyDeleteI love the crab print! Where is it from?
