This chair joined our family pre-babies and has taken a lot of abuse since then. Like the best of us, he's showing signs of aging and needs a little perking up (until I can buy a new one).
Maybe you have a tired chair, too (sometimes known as "the man chair" that won't leave because it's just so comfortable). So, what do you do?
Here's my quick fix:
This isn't rocket science, but definitely an easy way to give an old chair new life. And, sometimes it's the little changes that make you feel better about your home. I simply used a $3.99 IKEA throw (folded in half) and a bold zig zag pillow (that I won from this blog).
Changing pillows is one of the easiest updates you can make. How do you know it's time? In general, if your pillows have dated cording, tassels, match the upholstery and/or are as flat as a pancake, it's probably time to toss them.
If your chair or sofa is solid or in a fabric with a small pattern, go for pillows with big, bold prints. Throws are also a quick disguise. I chose a soft fleece one to cover most of the chair, but I also love the texture that faux fur throws add to a room.
What's your best "quick fix" tip?

A chevron pillow definitely makes any old chair look current. I agree - the pillow & throw really freshen it up - looks great!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

Oh boy do I have old chairs...and old pillows...and an old sofa. I agree that pillows make a huge difference. Love the chevron lucky you!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip and I LOVE your room!!!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a bright, bold, and beautiful week :)
xoxo Laura
love the chevron pillow, it breaks the pattern so nicely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I have Dave's recliner that he refuses to part with! I have been trying to think of something to do with it. Thanks! Hope you have a great week! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI just love seeing photos of your home. Beautiful!!
ReplyDeletethat chevron is gorgeous! It really works well with the chair and the whole room!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!

how clever you are....i have always loved using huge cozy textured blankets and pinning them down to create an uber soft seat. but i do looooove that chevron pillow.
ReplyDeleteGreat quick fix. I actually order a great Suzani print fabric to make a throw to cover part of a leather sofa-the part my dog scratched to hell! I like the idea of adding a pillow too.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Chevron can fix anything :) My fav quick (and cheap) tip is to paint or wallpaper the backs of bookcases. It makes them more interesting and takes the pressure off in terms of filling them with books and accessories. To cheat, I've used nice gift wrap sheets and double stick tape!
ReplyDeleteAh, I think we all have a tired chair around...they frequently become more "tired" with the arrival of kiddies too! Great tips and of course a little hit of chevron never did any harm :)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to stop by and say thanks for visiting my blog and your sweet comment on my before and after. I'd love to hear what you do with your faux bamboo pieces!

love that pillow- it can make anything look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI have two of those pillows on my bed and that is my little quick fix :)
Emily, I just did a post on reviving a chair with paint & fabric. I love your method - no tools required for a fresh look - thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe navy/white zig zag really ties the red chair in with the rest of your living room -- great quick fix (which I'm all about these days as I find myself with less and less time to get larger projects done).
ReplyDeleteLOVE the chevron!!! I have a very tired wingback that will benefit from this post! :)
ReplyDeleteWow - the throw and pillow really make a difference. Your eye is immediately drawn to the pillow and you don't notice the chair as much. Thanks for the tip - it's a keeper!
ReplyDeleteThat chair looks seriously comfortable!
ReplyDeleteI've tried the trick with a throw over my old battered sofa, but the throw keeps falling down and out of place all the time. So I've given up and is now buying a new sofa. I guess that's my quick fix! ;)
