While I've always envisioned a pretty gray. . . .

Think along the lines of this color (unfortunately, I'm ruling out wallpaper for now) :

Does anyone have any other good images of gold (not yellow) bathrooms? They seem to be hard to come by. Maybe that should tell me something :)
The rest of the plan: to hang this mirror I bought at Homegoods last weekend, and to use this navy/white stripe fabric for some type of fabric shade (to be decided):
I may ditch the weathered look for glossy white spray paint:
Would love your feedback on this. I may take the kids to Lowes to get paint this afternoon (and to ride in those cool race car carts they love).
What project are you tackling this weekend?

Totally in love with the mirror! Such character! I have the exact same striped fabric in black and white, and its soooooo fun to have around, I get so many comments on my wingbacks which are slipcovered in it, so I would definitely incorporate it! I too have rarely seen a golden yellow bathroom, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be beautiful, you have great accent pieces!
ReplyDeleteI love both the gray and gold - actually, I like those colors together! I have desperately been wanting to put wallpaper up in our powder room, but my husband won't budge on it - when he thinks of wallpaper, he thinks of it from back in the 80s and not the glorious papers you see today. I think the gold with that fabulous striped fabric would be great - do you recall who makes that fabric? I'm looking for something similar but with a light blue stripe for our bedroom window panels.
ReplyDeleteOh, and that mirror is fantastic!
I don't think I'd be brave enough to do a yellow in the bathroom - but if you are going to do it, I'd go with a nice bright one. (A goldish color might look a bit orange). I think the white mirror and stripes will look really sharp with it.
ReplyDeleteOr what about painting the wall a deep gray and painting the mirror yellow? That would be a nice pop without having to commit to the bright color in such a large way.
I can't wait to see what you come up with! The mirror is great!
ReplyDeleteWe're finally getting around to painting our master bedroom this weekend. I'm going with a gray/blue.
I love the fabric - stick with that for sure! I think the mirror would be terrific glossy - maybe that goes a deep yellow/amber. But admittedly, I am not a white gloss girl. Yellow walls make me nervous generally but again, that is because in Chicago where we have so many gloomy days, the wrong yellow can look depressing (believe it or not!). Why not try the yellow on the mirror with your original grey wall idea - or do the mirror in grey if you find the perfect yellow for your wall...
ReplyDeleteGood luck!

Love the fabric...love the mirror! I can not wait to see your room come to life! I am slowly getting thru our master bedroom. It has been a rainy week here but as luck would have it...the sun is out! Looks like I can go get my wood and start the project that scares me BEYOND belief.
ReplyDeleteCheers~

I for one say trust your instincts! I think the mirror is going to be fabulous. The gloss white will pop against the yellow wall, and I love how the graphic navy and white stripe with play with a yellow background too. Maybe be careful of going too orange though. I like Concord Ivory for a soft, easy-on-the-eyes, not too lemony yellow. But, it depends on how much light you get there. Do you have a window? You may have to do lots of testing to find the right yellow. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...what about doing the grey with some gold accents? Love the mirror BTW!
ReplyDeletei think that if you change the faucet out to a chrome one, you should leave the mirror looking distressed. it's a great mirror, so to tell you the truth, i think it would look great either way. i love the idea of grey walls with a crisp white accents and your striped shade. yellow accents would look great too, but i just think black, white, and grey might be more timeless. can't wait to see the results--whatever you do will be fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWe're going to finish up our half-bath mini makeover (pics next week!), but that may not include a valance. We'll have to see how rusty my sewing skills are! We'll probably assemble the baby's crib, too, so I can take measurements for the crib skirt. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing for your powder room!
ReplyDeleteLove the gray! The blue and white striped fabric is so fun and I love the mirror...can't wait to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of gold -- have you considered using a true metallic? I love RL's metallic line at Home Depot. You could also just put a metallic glaze over whatever color you end up going with. And I love the idea of making that mirror a glossy white -- it's gonna be fab!
ReplyDeleteFrom the paint deck - I think the "Gold Leaf" looks good!
ReplyDeleteI don't know... I have a caramel-colored bathroom, and in some lights it's really pretty, and I really like it. Other times of day, it's just okay. I'm kind of considering repainting it at some point.
Anyways - all that to tell you to try it. It's a small area, so if you end up hating it, you can always repaint!!
And I love the mirror!
Sounds like a fun project! I just LOVE that fabric you have for the space too.
ReplyDeleteNo projects planned for me, but that doesn't mean I wont find a few to keep me busy.
Have a great weekend!!
I have buttercream 40's tiles in one of our bathrooms with a black border and I wasn't sure what do with them because, hey-that's a lot of yellow tile. But after a day of shopping, I saw a beautiful dress that was black, gray, and buttercream (I know you were thinking of gold for yours) and they all went so well together! So I painted the part above the tile grey, am reinstalling a black and white floor, and (of course) keeping the vintage white cast iron sink with chrome and tub. Gray, yellow, black, and white are a great, clean combo.... go for it!
ReplyDeleteI like the gold for the walls and I think it paired with the navy blue & white striped is really fresh looking. The first thing I thought of was very kate spade like. The only bathroom picture I had in my files that had a goldish color on the wall (but its wallpaper) was this: http://bp3.blogger.com/_fBG_zJNzwxg/SBHcjDCEs3I/AAAAAAAAAH8/7UQMfQ4r3DM/s1600-h/bathroom-1169458467.jpg
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you decide! Good Luck!
i am so in love with this post. you know black and white stripes are my weakness. :)
ReplyDeleteThat mirror is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYour post about redecorating your bathroom inspired me to write one myself,as I'm getting some work done too:

Have a great weekend! :)
good luck with your weekend project. i love that mirror and fabric. please share the finished product!
ReplyDeleteYes, glossy white paint! yes! I love that mirror. Why can't a HomeGoods reside near me?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to what you do to that bathroom... I have two non-master bathrooms that we haven't even touched so we need more ideas :)
The mirror is fabulous! What about painting the walls a kelly green? That would look great with a glossy white (or navy) mirror and the striped fabric! Very Kate Spade! Can't wait to see what you do - I'm sure it'll look great.
ReplyDeleteLove the mirror and for a lovely soft yellow how about Benjamin Moore's summer harvest CC-190. A beautiful soft golden yellow - I have this in my basement and it makes it glow.
ReplyDeletePlease wallpaper???? Pretty please! If I was unsuccessful talking you into wallpaper....
ReplyDeleteand you are sticking with the golden walls, my vote would be to paint the mirror black.
Can't wait to see the fruits of your laboring! HA!
I'm loving the gray. I am actually a HUGE fan of gray, white and black. I am painting my upstairs bath...Sterling by Benjamin Moore. Sort of grayish blue...Lots of sampling brought me to this color.
ReplyDeleteIf you do the gold, maybe try something darker....Livingston Gold is a very dark gold that looks amazining with Dove White and Navy....by Benjamin Moore.
Great ideas! That gold and white wallpaper is fabulous - and the solid color will look great too. Can't wait to see the results.
ReplyDeletewow that mirror is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI think its a beautiful color combination idea!
I am trying to tackle some work projects this weekend and still enjoy family time;)
Good luck!
Great find- that mirror is gorgeous! I can't wait to see pics of how your bathroom is going to look!
ReplyDeleteOoooh! I agree with your idea about the mirror, def. go glossy. I haven't really seen any gold bathrooms, but the white and stripes is making me think of the jcrew bathroom from lonny (which I absolutely adore!)
ReplyDeleteMy initial reaction is, you'll get sick of the gold quickly. My second reaction is, wait. It's Emily. It will look ridiculously great and she won't get sick of it.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I am no help. But I want that striped fabric! Where did you find it?
Alaina
Ohhh, it's going to be GREAT either way! I was fortunate enough to WIN an AWESOME duvet from www.annettetatum.com and the pattern I choose is called Brocade Pearl. It's a lovely soft grey brocade that reverses to a soft golden butter stripe! In her catalog she pairs it with an almost goldenrod linen pillow...fabulous! Yesterday I bought a similar pillow at PierOne to go with it! If you want to see pics and there are links to the exact catalog, here's the link http://whimages.blogspot.com/2010/04/thank-you-annette-tatum.html I can't wait to see what you do!
