Creating a Colorful Outdoor Space

This beautiful day has me itching to spruce up our little front porch. And, if there is one place to use color, it's in an outdoor space:

Metropolitan Home

The easiest way to add color until the blooms start appearing:  bright, outdoor pillows.  They are readily available, in a wide variety of colors and patterns--and most, at reasonable prices.  Here are a few of my favorites that I found online:

Target

Pottery Barn

And, for the chairs on our front porch, I'm thinking of pillows in this:

And, maybe spray painting a table I already have in a color similar to this:

So, what are your spring plans for your outdoor spaces???

  1. My backyard is a mess, but definitely pressure washing for the front (after the pollen comes and goes, of course!).

  4. Great pictures! We are getting tempted with warmer temperatures here in Louisville, but then it gets cold and rainy for a couple of days to dash our hopes of any consistent warm weather. That yellow table is gorgeous, and I think it would look great paired with that fabric for your chair cusions.

  5. All I can think about is my back deck. Have no idea what I want to do with it... love the colors you chose! A yellow table would be so fun!

  7. It's official - I need to focus on esty sellers for fun summer pillows! Though I don't know that simply adding a few pillows to our otherwise empty backyard will do the trick! It's certainly a start, right?!?! Marija

  8. Love the Met Home inspiration photo -- the colors are gorgeous. Also very happy to see outdoor fabrics being made in fantastic colors. It's all so refreshing and fun.

Major plans for the yard this year are actually getting some landscaping and a patio/firepit put in. Right now, it's a total blank slate!

  10. It's funny...I just wrote a post about outdoor dining spaces for my Friday blog post.

We are planning for an outdoor dining area in the yard near the house entrance by the dining room. It's going to be a big project - pouring concrete or placing brick, buying furniture and some sort of sun shade, etc - and I am looking forward to it.

I love all those pillows you posted.

  11. Hi Emily, I love these pillows, did you read my blog post admitting to being a pillow addict. Go and take a look at the pillow I am putting outside, it will definitely add color. I have been buying pink and white impatiens for my cobalt blue pots outside. I am going to have a post on Monday about the backyard at my house. I am so glad you did this post it is inspiring me to think about some ways to put more color in the back!! Have a great rest of the week,Kathysue

  12. I never really thought about doing anything to my outdoor space. But, with three active boys who love to be outside, I may have to start thinking up something quick! I think that possibly have a nice outdoor seating area will make me want to go out more myself!

    Have a great day!

  19. It's a little early up here to get ready for outdoor spaces, but this has definitely got me inspired. I really like your pillow finds and ideas for your porch. Can't wait to see how it turns out! You must post "after"s!

  20. You've totally given me a kick in the pants to get to work on our back patio!! It's not nearly as pretty as the one in the picture, but we did get some nice furniture from a family friend last fall. The only problem is that it's painted doo-doo brown at the moment, and kind of ugly. So I've been putting off the decision of what to do....

    Thanks for the inspiration!
