American Idols and Bookcases

I am just hoping that someone in blogger land will be as excited as I am about my celebrity encounter over the weekend, because very few people in the real world are as excited as I want them to be over this:

Why, why, why did I have my hair slicked back in a silly ponytail?!

Please tell me you know who this is and love Jason Castro (American Idol, a few seasons back) as much as I do!

So, here's the short version of the story: My brother, his girlfriend Katie, and I went to see if we could get into a place he was playing in Charlotte Friday night but we didn't have tickets. The guy at the door put us on a waiting list and basically told us it was hopeless because there were several others ahead of us and the place was really small. So we gave him our number and went down the street to a coffee shop to wait. Well, guess who's there?

My brother spotted him first and without giving it another thought, I went right over to him and started rambling like a crazy celebrity stalker. I'm not sure if he was frightened or amused but he came over and took pictures with us anyway. Then, we went over to our corner and pretended to drink coffee while watching him out of the corner of our eyes.

He got up to leave 15 minutes before he was suppose to start playing, went to the door and then turned around and came back to us. He told us to come with him since we didn't have tickets and we could go in with him. The funniest thing about this whole story is us trying to act cool about this whole situation.

Anyway, his show was great. Love his voice, and he's not bad to look at, either. So, thanks for letting me tell my little story. I feel better now, and would appreciate a little enthusiasm from my readers :)

Okay, back to design-related subject matter. . . .I also made the dreaded Saturday IKEA trip. That place is crazy on weekends. I, unfortunately, did not come home with a desk. Nothing was calling to me. I think I've decided to search for a simple Parsons desk like this:

I did buy the Expedit bookcase (after 20 minutes of deciding between the smaller or larger one, I opted for the big one):

Since mine is still sitting in three very large boxes in the office, check out how great it looks in these rooms:

This is a higher-end bookcase in Elle Decor but with a similar look. Love the way they've accessorized with the mirrors:

Sorry for the long post today. Stay tuned; my first giveaway is in the works and I'll be announcing it soon!

  1. So cool, I loved him on AI. You are so lucky you ran into him at the coffee house, and then he invited you to his show.

My sister has one of those bookshelves from Ikea. She and her husband call it "16" because of how many cubbies it has. I live in Iowa and I could go to MN but its a drive. It looks awesome in her LR. Love to see what you do with yours!

  2. Be glad you went larger--it's so much better than then smaller one. It also takes a minute to put together, but it's perfect once it's up.

Very cool about Jason Castro--how nice of him to come back and let you guys in!!

  5. Woohoo!! Love Jason Castro! I once had a celebrity encounter myself with two AI contestants. My friend and I were at the Today show and as we saw them walking out the back door - we chased them and got our pics. taken with them! HA! Definitely was not calm, cool, and collect about that one, but they were nice about it :)

Love the bookshelves - sure they will be perfect in your space!!

  7. Hey, I have the very same book shelf and I'm from Israel - lol. Two of those actually. Sadly, it doesn't look as pretty as yours, but hey - my book collection can feet in.

BTW, I really like Jason Castro (and his new EP is great). Indeed not the regular celeb behavior I would say. Charming!

  9. ok girl, so how did i completely MISS that you are miss interior decorator?! have we never talked about what we do for a living?! i am a designer (kitchens specifically, but degreed) and speaking of the Expedit bookcase, i've had mine for about 6 years and it went from room-divider for our townhome, to office furniture in our first house, to a large storage piece complete with doors made by Kev out of MDF and baskets i lined with polka-dot fabric for Dylan's nursery! seriously girl - i can't believe we haven't talked about interiors!
not a big idol fan, but loving the celeb. pic, and you look beautiful with your hair anywhichway...
    love you!

  11. I am thinking about getting one of these expedit bookcases, so you'll have to let me know how you like yours. My poor, plain old bookcase is overflowing and my office is a mess!

  15. I have recently discovered home decor blogs and I love yours! I was reading some of your past articles and saw this. I had a similar American Idol celebrity encounter but my encounter was with Taylor Hicks! He was so nice, and in person is drop dead handsome. My real life friends don't get my excitement over the encounter either!
Fast forward to the present and I am waiting for you to clean up your desk and take photos to see your new office!
