Current blah dining room:

I purchased the table & "matching" (ugh!) chairs for our previous house, when I was feeling more of an Old World style. Unfortunately, we just bought it within the last few years so I'm not quite ready to break it to the husband that I'm ready for a change. Sometimes, we just have to work with what we've got. I'm hoping a fun wallpaper with give the room a more contemporary feel. And, you can't get much more fun that lime green and metallic damask.
The key to going bold with wallpaper without being overwhelmed? Try it in small spaces. Since I have a chair rail half way up the wall, that will cut the amount of pattern in half.
You could always start with the powder room. Probably the smallest room in the house that you spend the least amount of time in.
Here's House Beautiful's top picks for the best powder room papers. This is my favorite:
Would love to see pictures of any spaces you've recently papered!

I am not yet ready to show it but we are wallpapering a renovated bathroom in our "terrace level" (aka basement). Before we started, I had planned to rip out the old paper and paint the wall. I had looked forward to doing this for sometime believing wallpapers were so outdated. Than I started seeing great papers in decorating magazines and blogs and couldn't resist checking some out. I did find that the process for buying has become more complex and expensive. The last time I bought wallpapers (12 years ago) for 5 bathrooms and a kitchen, there were a lot of good-sized shops with in-store choices and the prices were pretty reasonable. Not anymore. Anyway, I will share when done!
ReplyDeleteI've been pondering wallpaper for about a year now. I thought about my powder room, which definitely needs a bit something. The Mr. scoffed because we never use the powder room and the door is always closed. I'm also highly considering it for our master bath, which also needs a bit something. The real thing holding me back is that we're only planning to be in our house about three more years, so I wonder if it would hold anyone back when we go to sell it. Of course, I do have to convince The Mr. first, too!
